About this Cook
Hi! I'm an 18-year-old gal from New York who is currently chewing my way through college. My mother taught me how to cook when I was very little, and I've been pretty independant about it since I was about 10. My favorite posession is a cookbook that my mother made for me, out of old family recipes and things we often eat at home. I can't wait until I can move out and get my own kitchen, so I can better share my food with my family.
My favorite things to cook
Breads, pastries, desserts, breakfasts, and things involving fruit.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The day after Thanksgiving every year, my family gets together to bake thousands of Christmas cookies. They've done this for 65 years! The cookies are then distributed among my grandparents, their six children, and the 13 grandkids. Its so much fun!
My cooking triumphs
I made tamales that are, according to my mexican friend, better than her own mother's.
My cooking tragedies
I often begin cooking things, and then realize in the middle of an important step that i'm missing an ingredient that is crucial to the wellbeing of the entire dish.

Ultimate Frozen Strawberry Margarita
This is truly the ultimate frozen strawberry margarita. Its rare that I have no alterations, but I truly don't think anything could improve upon this recipe. Bravo!

Buttery Soft Pretzels
Pretty good, needed some adjustments. After one of my pretzels started to "melt" in the baking soda solution, I cut the baking soda to 1/3 of a cup, and combined it with 6 c. water on the stove. Once it came to a boil, I dropped in each pretzel individually until the outside started to solidify, and then scooped it out using a spatula. When they came out of the oven, they were certainly tasty but the underside was still a bit goopy and uncooked, though the tops were done. If I did it again, I'd drop the temperature to 375-390 and stick them in there for 15-20 min, so they were more evenly cooked.

Brown Sugar-Caramel Latte
I made this latte with 2% milk (a little more than the recipe called for) instead of the half and half and it was delicious with a lesser calorie count. I also sprinkled some brown sugar on the top, because I was serving it to guests, and was very happy with the visual result.
