It's a very "blue" berry day......

Even with the cool wet weather we've had in the Willamette Valley, Oregon, my blueberries are coming on at a very rapid rate. Today, I picked about 6 cups. Of the 8 Blueberry plants in my garden, (all different varities) 4 are heavy laden. I will be picking for a week or so straight to get all the ripe ones picked, washed and frozen. (I freeze on a cookie sheet in single layers) I'll be making blueberry syrup, blueberry sauce for those "Lemon Lavendar" cupcakes I'm making and compote for meat dishes during the Holidays. I also bag clean and frozen blueberries in sandwich sized baggies in 1 cup amounts for smoothies. And, of course I do eat them fresh too right off the bush; mostly while picking. That's what makes it all so much fun!

Oh, the childhood memories of blueberry season in the Willamette Valley. Try the Creamy Blueberry Pie recipe from this site. It is to die for good.

Oh so jealous of your blueberry bushes. I might have to consider adding them to my garden. Enjoy!

Mich, Can't wait to try the Creamy Blueberry Pie! It sounds yummy. MN Nice, I did not like blueberries at all until my husband planted them. Now, I can't wait each year until they are ready to pick! And, they are very little to no work at all. You should definantly get yourself some blueberry bushes.

I have 2 bushes - one is ripe now and the other comes on later in the summer. My dog loves to pull the berries off and eat them-she's worse than the birds! I'm going to look up this blueberry cream pie, sounds yummy.

About Me
I am a wife and mother of 5 grown children. Being semi-retired has allowed me time to do things I've put off doing; like really learning to cook and bake. I also love to garden, read, scrapbook and just recently I've gotten into geneology. I am loving this phase of my life with my husband and family.
My favorite things to cook
Fresh garden vegetables and fruits. The anticipation of what my garden will produce is always a joy. I also love to bake. And, Mostly I love to bake cupcakes and sweet treats.
