Living The Dream (well, I'm trying...)

The day after.....

The fourth of July was so wonderfully American at our house. We had bar-b-qued hamburgers, sat around a fire making "Smores," and shot off overpriced (with the occasionl DUD) fireworks! As I recall yesterday with my family and Grand-gals, I think how magical the day was. And, how our simple celebration made me feel so patiotic! I think it's these little things in life that makes me somehow feel like, yes, I really am "livin' the dream......

I made my favorite salad sidedish with hamburgers. A knock-off version of KFC's Cole Slaw. How 'bout you? What did you do? What did you eat?

"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more."-John Adams to his wife Abigail. This is How the fourth makes me feel too! We had fried chicken, fries, slaw, and fireworks...in that order,LOL!!

Well, both my DD's who are 17 and 18, found other friends to hang out with. I made bratwurst in a beer hot tub and accidently dried out my brisket.Thank goodness for sauce! It was just my hubby, 15 yo DS and MIL so we just watched the fireworks on TV. Really cold here for July. Weird! Nice to hear yours was relaxing and living life to the Fullest! I think that is terrific:) Good blog and take care, Patty

Sounds like a nice day to me. We didn't do anything special really...I made cupcakes and we had finger foods for supper. I swam most of the day and we watched fireworks from our front yard...they were going off all around us!

To: Mom's diner, I just love that John Adams quote! Thank you so much for sharing. And, coincidendly, my son asked as we were shooting off our fireworks and watching as our entire neighborhood did, "Where on earth did this custom come from?" Well, I think you answered his question and I shall pass it along. Thanks again!

About Me
I am a wife and mother of 5 grown children. Being semi-retired has allowed me time to do things I've put off doing; like really learning to cook and bake. I also love to garden, read, scrapbook and just recently I've gotten into geneology. I am loving this phase of my life with my husband and family.
My favorite things to cook
Fresh garden vegetables and fruits. The anticipation of what my garden will produce is always a joy. I also love to bake. And, Mostly I love to bake cupcakes and sweet treats.
