About this Cook
I have always had an interest in food and cooking. Being a student means I sometimes have to be creative with my cooking, throwing together a meal with whatever happens to be in the fridge (it also means I have lots of willing test subjects as most college students are always down for a home cooked meal). I've found cooking to be an excellent diversion from the usual grind of courses and such, and since we all have to eat, I don't even have to call it procrastination!
My favorite things to cook
stir fries, italian food of all incarnations, roast chicken, salads of all shapes and sizes, quick breads, i'm dabbling in yeast free flat breads (because I almost never have yeast in the house), quinoa, potatoes, a recent influx of zucchini has also set off a wealth of dishes designed to make it disappear, just about anything with broccoli, garlic, or sauteed onions in it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
kosher cooking, though i believe i am the first of the family to take a stab at homemade matzah balls and soup. my family also loves to grill, but alas, i do not have one (though i am looking forward to buying a grill pan!)
My cooking triumphs
cooking a traditional, kosher seder for 16 people! a recent foray to the farmer's market also produced a 5 person meal of caprese salad, wild rice zucchini casserole, oregano olive oil bicuit bready thing i made up haha, and roasted garlic new potatoes yum!
My cooking tragedies
i had a horrible run in with some asian style noodles i picked up the day i bought a wok. they turned into a gummy mess and from then on i've relied on rice to sop up my soy sauce.
