About this Cook
I was born on the Azores Islands, I love cooking. I have been in Canada since I was a very young little girl. Love it here, I cannot afford to travel so I go all over the world with my cooking. I will try pretty much anything once, if I screw it up I will try it a second time or ask for help in how to do it properly then if I don't like it, I won't do it again. I like doing crafts, plastic canvas, crochet, kniting, sewing (even though I haven't done anything for a while and I miss doing it) and my favored, embrodery and cooking.
My favorite things to cook
Gosh what can I say? I love cooking anything and everything. Love experimenting with new recipes. I am a diabetic and I would love to learn how to cook healthier.
My favorite family cooking traditions
During each holiday of the year, that is Easter, summer was (preparing a pig for the whole year), Halloween, Christmas, etc., there was always special baking, or meals. Sunday the good china, cutlery and glasses would come out, table would be set with the good linen and it was a family affair. Special meals, with baking and dessert were enjoyed. Roast beef with the trimmings, Portuguese bread Soup or Holy Spirit Soup(traditional of the Azores) and some places in the main land but perhaps with a different name, which consited of cutting bread (like French bread, Italian or Portuguese hard crust breads) in edible pieces putting it in a bowl with a sprig of mint and pouring over the bread the liquid in which you have just cooked everything in. After eating this soup, you then went on with the rest, which consisted of a carrot, a potatoe, a piece of Portuguese sausage, a piece of smoked bacon, cabbage, and a slice of meat. It was delicious. Sometimes you had Alcatra (traditonal)
My cooking triumphs
The Azorian Alcatra, Pies, fancy tarts, Roasting a turkey, Pot Roast. Fruit salads simple yes but I add my own touches, like adding Port wine.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make Phyllo pastry. Baking bread the kneading part, I find it difficult for me. News: I am getting better at making Phyllo pastry and kneading dough. Portuguese sweet bread, did for the first time, my husband raved about it, (Feb. 2011)
