I am 26 years old, am married to a wonderful man, and have an amazing perfect baby girl!
I have loved cooking since I was young. When I was young I used to look through the cabinets and make weird little concoctions with all different canned veggies and beans, and spices; I'm sure I would think they are gross now, but back then I thought it was skill! haha Now I LOVE cooking and just recently, because of a friend, found a new love for baking. I hardly ever follow a recipe. Cooking to me is looking at 10 different recipes, then putting the books away and just going to town! I also never measure anything (besides when I am baking). I think people take recipes too seriously. Cook what you like!!
My favorite things to cook
I like cooking pretty much everything, as long as the ingredients are real food. I am a Registered Nurse and value my health and the health of others. I do a lot of research into foods and diet; modern, processed, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oil and preservative/chemical/pesticide laden, genetically modified "foods" are the cause of nearly all of the health problems of our day (its not genetics like modern medicine wants you to believe so that you feel powerless, and drugs are not the answer) So everything I cook, I try to use the best ingredients.
I love pasta so I make a lot of it. I also love to grill.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving at Nana's house. Her turkey soup before dinner, creamed onions, my mom's cranberry-jello- pudding thing with marshmallows, and all of the other delicious foods that, for some reason, we eat only once a year.
Also, my cousin and I (we are the same age and both female) who are always the first to sit down and last to get up from the table! The family always makes fun of us for the amount that we can eat! (We are also the first and last at the dessert table! haha)
My cooking triumphs
After I came back from Mexico I wanted to make corn tortillas, which I thought was going to be a triumphant accomplishment; come to find out, they are so simple to make! haha
But really anytime my cooking is enjoyed makes me happy and accomplishes what I set out to do.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 18, I tried to make my boyfriend a Thai soup, with coconut milk, mushrooms, fish sauce, lemongrass, shrimp, etc. It was one of the first times that I had cooked for him, but he loved Thai food, so I wanted to impress him. This was one time that I should have followed the recipe! I did not buy the proper amounts of ingredients, but I thought I could make it anyways. It was disgusting. We had not been dating very long, but it was so bad that he could not even pretend that he liked it. We had to throw it all away. Thankfully, it didn't scare him away, and now as my husband he gets to enjoy my cooking successes daily, but he still reminds me of this every once in a while! haha
