Six months.  Lots of things have happened in this time.  Some good, some very bad. I was helping my mother and stepfather once a week to go to chemotherapy for my stepfather's esophageal cancer.  Sadly, there was no benefit for the cancer, and it would seem that it hastened the progression of… MORE

Almost 6 months has passed since I last made an entry here.  Wow.  SOOO much has happened:My husband and I went on a 25th anniversary cruise.  (Thank you, dear, for 25 amazing years!) My oldest daughter graduated from college in May. My youngest daughter finished her freshman year in college.… MORE

I have to run to an appointment, but I just wanted to start an entry.  Vegetarianism is not working to reduce my cholesterol.  :(  Back to the drawing board!  I think I need to continue with the vegetarian diet, though.  It's not terrible.  It's a little more challenging, but doable. … MORE

...which really has nothing to do with my particular cooking or eating.  :)  It's just hubby and me, and he keeps saying that he wants to watch his eating and his weight.  So, we'll eat in the living room, a simple chicken and pasta. Wait! You recall that I am vegetarian, right? I will pick… MORE

Eating vegetarian-ly is not as hard as I expected.  That is not to say that it is easy, though.  My husband really does not like my not eating what he eats, and he often thinks that once I have my next blood test in January 2012, I can go back to eating "normally."  Maybe never again.... At… MORE

Of the adjustments to vegetarianism that I am experiencing, the one I did not expect was the increased desire for sugar!  Most of the adjustments have not been that difficult.  I can do my regular oatmeal with fruit and nuts in the morning; lunch at work can be a challenge only because I… MORE

(I'm really just getting this started, since I can't write too much right now.  Family Weekend #2, for our second daughter, was wonderful.) OK, I'm back.  It's two days later.  :)  I really want to record some wonderful memories from the Family Weekend at my younger daughter's college.  Five… MORE

I have a day off!  Of course, I also have way too much to do.  It's better than the empty boredom I sometimes see in people who do not have rich lives and relationships, and my heart hurts for them.  In my work, I see people who have nothing better to do than sit around, smoke, dream up ways… MORE

The Best Vegetarian Chili in the World was actually a hit with the husband!  Maybe we can do this vegetarian thing at least once a week together.  I had heard of the "Meatless Monday" movement, and we just might be able to pull it off in our house.  Yay!  (Thanks, allrecipes.com, for the… MORE

It hasn't been as hard as I thought to be more vegetarian.  Well, it hasn't been so hard for me.  My poor dear husband, though, isn't getting as many of my delicious former recipes as he did before the prescribed vegetarian diet. So, I have come up with a pretty decent compromise, I think.  On… MORE

About Me
I love Jesus Christ. I am sold out to working with children, especially to show the love of God to them. I also serve the seriously mentally ill, who are really quite delightful people when they are well.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook things to serve to family for family time together. It doesn't much matter what it is.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Everyone pitches in. That's the tradition I like so much.
