Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2009
Delicious and took only minutes to throw together! The recipe made a lot and our family of four enjoyed it for two days. We even made it more like a taco salad by serving it topped with thinly sliced lettuce and diced tomatoes in addition to the cheese and sour cream. A definite keeper in our home!

White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies IV

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
White chocolate macadamia nut cookies are my favourite, and this cookie was pretty close to perfection. I made them slightly larger, and served fresh from the oven with a round scoop of ice cream, caramel sauce drizzled on top, and grated chocolate curls sprinkled on top. It made for a beautiful dessert that got lots of compliments from our company! Be sure not to bake the cookies until they're very golden so they'll be more chewy than crunchy. You also might want to half the macadamia nuts so they're not too large.

Satay Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2009
Ever since I lived in Indonesia, it's been my personal mission to find a fantastic peanut sauce. The store bought ones don't cut it for me. But tonight I attempted my own (this recipe) and was pleasantly surprised! It wasn't quite what I wanted, but I was still satisfied. I didn't have coconut milk, so I used 1% (the strongest I have!). I also tossed in a sprinkling of taco seasoning instead of pepper flakes, and added a bit more brown sugar as it was too peanut-y. It went well with my satay and the family loved it!

Chicken Pot Pie VIII

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2009
This turned out great and got rave reviews from the family. Definitely a keeper. I followed some of your guys' advice and cooked the veggies most of the way through before dumping them in the shells, and also baked the bottom crust a bit first to prevent sogginess later on. Thanks to your suggestions, I wouldn't change a thing! Thanks guys :)

Cheesiest Tomato Soup

Reviewed: May 24, 2009
This soup was really good, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it was great. If you're following the 8 serving default recipe, you'll need to add about 3 T sugar to soften the sharpness of the canned tomatoes.

Beat and Bake Orange Cake

Reviewed: May 24, 2009
Very good! My whole family really enjoys this cake. It's very fresh and unique, but mine was pretty dense and heavy. If you're doubling the recipe, don't double the icing! I have a lot left over now... :) I can promise you it will be a hit with your families. Have a great summer, everyone!

Spicy Baked Feta (Feta Psiti)

Reviewed: May 31, 2009
Yummy! I added a bit of paprika on my feta and left out the chili though. Eat it while it's still fresh from the oven, because as it cools it hardens up and is harder to eat on pita. Enjoy!

Tzatziki Sauce I

Reviewed: May 31, 2009
Good, but not like the sauce I get in restaurants. I think the yogurt I used was too thin, so I tried to take a commenter's advice and strain it in a coffee filter, but none of the water strained out, so my tzatziki was pretty thin. The flavour was really zesty and great though, but I'd try a thicker yogurt next time or strain it in cheese cloth.

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

I followed this recipe closely and it was easy and quick, but pretty flavourless. I'll try something different next time.

Portobello Lemon Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2009
I really enjoyed this chicken! It was really tangy from the lemon, but not too much. I was scared that it might get too dry, so I also sprayed some Italian Dressing on it (nice addition in my humble opinion). Served it with a nice Greek salad covered in a thin tzatziki sauce! Very good!

Garlic Cheddar Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2009
Delicious! Took some commentor's advice and covered the bottom of my casserole dish with crushed croutons to keep the bottom crispy, and it worked great! I adjusted the recipe to feed my family of 4,but found that 6 rather than 2 cloves of garlic fitted better. I also added some crushed cornflakes into my breading mixture, and that was a nice addition. I found it only took 18 minutes to bake, so don't take the recipe's recommendation! I did however broil it for 2 minutes afterwards, based on one commentor's advice, and it got more brown than I would have liked. So be careful! I don't think broiling is really necessary... it's crispy enough without it I'm sure! Everyone kept raving about this chicken all night. Ooooh, and it smelt GREAT while I was cooking it! Great served with a simple iceberg lettuce salad :)

White Chocolate Macadamia Cranberry Dreams

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2009
I was disappointed by these cookies. They weren't very sweet, the cranberry taste was all but lost, and they just had a "health cookie" taste to me. I think I'd try it again, but I'd tweak a few things.

The Best Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2009
Amazing! My family and I really enjoyed these. I'm serving them at our Father's Day picnic tomorrow and know they'll be a hit. I followed some commentors' advice and upped the flour a bit so I could use 2/3 cup lemon juice. It's strong and lemony! MMM!

Authentic Kicked-Up Syrian Hummus

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2009
Very good! I made my own tahini in the food processor by blending 2 T sesame seeds until smooth, then adding in salt, oil and water (don't remember the exact measurements, sorry!). Turned out great! I served it with pita triangles that were drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with Greek seasoning and baked at 325F for 3min. I'll definitely be making this again!

Quick Quiche

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2009
This was an "okay" quiche in my books. It was easy and quick, but didn't look as pretty or taste quite as good as I was hoping it to. I might make it again, but we'll see.

Watermelon Pops

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2009
This recipe was such an annoyance! By the time I was done with it I was sick of it! The freeze times that the recipe states are much too short. Add 1 hour to each stage of pouring, I'd say. I give it 2 stars and not 1 because it actually tastes really good though!

Chai Tea Mix

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2009
This recipe looked really good and is well rated, so I took a risk and made it for my friend's birthday. I made up the mix and put it in a pretty jar with a homemade label on the side. Great gift idea! We tried some together and were very impressed, but felt that it needed waaaay more spices! I will be making this again (and she will too!), but we'll be tweaking the spice levels. I'm a Canadian user, so I took a fellow commentor's advice and just mixed the tea into a cup of Orange Pekoe black tea. Worked great!

Roasted Chickpeas

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2009
Just made these and they turned out really well! I didn't make much, so I decided to start with 20min before I checked them. 2/3 of them burned! I don't know if it's because my oven is a convection or what, but I'll definitely take other users' advice next time and start at a lower temperature and turn it to 450F at the end. I dry roasted them and added the seasoning afterwards, and it was nice! A really crunchy, fun snack.

Grilled Ham Steak

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2009
My family and myself enjoyed this ham. It wasn't absolutely amazing, but it was easy and quick. I found that the barbecue quickly dried out the ham, so next time I will double the glaze, put half on the bottom of a 9x13 casserole dish, arrange the ham steak on top, and brush the rest of the glaze on top. I'll bake it at 325F for 25-30min. I've found that this has worked well with other ham steak recipes and believe it will improve this one greatly. The fruity taste and cinnamon were lovely touches though!
