I am a stay at home mom to three children. We are an active family that aims to eat tasty, healthy food that is fresh and as locally grown as possible. We raise our own hens for eggs and live on a 2.5 acre avocado/citrus/nut/fruit grove. We enjoy travel and camping in our RV, being outdoors sailing, walking/hiking and going to amusement parks and zoos. We have a small garden and belong to a local CSA and we compost.
My favorite things to cook
Pasta, lean meats like chicken, pork tenderloin, turkey and chicken meatloaf, lamb, vegetarian dishes. Italian, Asian, Meditteranean cuisines. Quick and easy meals are a passion when they taste fantastic.
My favorite family cooking traditions
There are some Thanksgiving dishes that I love to make - my friend's sweet potatoes, my grandmother's green bean casserole. Cooking any of my grandmother's recipes make me feel whole and connected - that is actually both of my grandmothers as they were amazing cooks.
My cooking triumphs
My rack of lamb recipe is one of my all time favorites - making that for family was so fun. Any meal that satisfies, looks beautiful on the plate and is pleasing on the palate is a triumph for me. When my kids enjoy something I have made from scratch, it is rewarding.
My cooking tragedies
I normally get stressed timing items so I try to make as much as possible in advance. My first Thanksgiving I did not prepare as much as I should have and it was a rather sweaty day but the food was good (just not ready all at the same time.) I have improved a great deal but still not perfect in my timing with big meals for holidays.
