Very good base recipe. I threw everything into the crockpot, and added the pearl barley (upped the amount to one cup) and salt during the last hour. I had to doctor it quite a bit to get good flavour though, the recipe as is is quite bland. I had 4 cups of beef broth as well as 2 cubes of beef buillon, a tsp of minced garlic, and some garlic powder. I marinated the cubed beef overnight in montreal steak spice and garlic powder. At the end of it, my boyfriend said it was the best beef barley soup he had ever had, and he can't wait to bring it to lunch tomorrow. Thanks!
