A Week at the HappyCookers

Well I haven't blogged in awhile so I thought I would fill you in on what a typical week looks like in my household. This one is a little crazier then usual but none the less it's always quite crazy, between the Cafe, children, husband, housework and the river flooding in my back yard!

The cafe has had a great week, new people are coming in and new people from last week have returned : ) I have not had any complaints to date and a large part of that is due to AR and you guys at AR! So THANK YOU all so much for putting up with my constant requests and questions a large part of the success has been because of  this site and the helpful people on here.

Children well I have decided to join the worst mothers club, Why you may ask? Well I have a beautiful 8 yr old son who had a tooth ache. Seems harmless right, WRONG. I let my children go hog wild on treats at 2 holidays, Easter and Halloween I figure if I let them eat as much as they want that it goes away faster which means less fighting over eating healthy. No candy in the house they have no choice but to eat what I buy for them. So he is complaining on Easter Sunday at bedtime that his tooth hurts, I tell him to go brush his teeth and hop in bed I'm not buying it as you had a friend over all day and ate a ton of chocolate and now your tooth hurts. My bad he wakes up at 3 a.m. crying okay now I believe you, so I gave him some advil and he goes back to bed, I get up and he doesn't say much about it so I figured it must not have been to serious. Well I go to work and he stays home with dad, so I don't hear anything all day about this tooth ache until I get home.
Well I get home at 2:00, my husband informs me that he has been throwing up all day and now his face has started to swell. Well I panic and demand that he take him to the hospital immediately. So off they went to the hospital. Turns out he had a abysses tooth? Not sure my husband doesn't give a lot of detail when it comes to important thing. Tuesday he goes to his dentist where they proceeded to pull out his tooth, but it wouldn't freeze properly because of the infection. So I have traumatized my son from the dentist, as he put it " You said it would HURT but not that MUCH " So the tooth fairy left him $20 for pain and suffering.

The next two topics the husband and housework are the same old, same old

The next is the river. Well I live on a small river (La Salle) which attaches to the Red river further south. This is the 3rd year we've been here and it's the highest we have ever seen it, it has now come up to the Man Hut, my hubbys domain in the summer and has started to flood my back yard. I have banned the kids from going back there and it smells horrible! We had to sand bag along the deck of the hut and hope that it has crested if not, I lose my house to my husband this summer : (
I will post some pictures for you guys, however you won't be able to see the difference until I take some more when the river has returned to normal.
An update on the river, it has now started to flood the "Man Hut" it came over the deck this morning 04/17/09. So I hope that the sand bags do there job and keep the water out of the hut : (

So this is a typical week in the house of the HappyCooker. Things are always crazy or someone is always sick or hurt but I guess that what happens when you live in a house full of boys!

Oh no! Poor child. Abscessed teeth are nothing to fool around about. If they burst, they can be really harmful. But glad he got it taken care of! As for your backyard.. that just sucks. Lol it looks like you have a pretty nice yard tho! I love lots of trees :]

Thanks, my next passion in life is gardening. Before I started working again I was outside from sunrise to sunset gardening. We bought this house because of the property and not the house sounds kinda weird but I guess we are. LOL

Sorry to hear about your son, Happycooker. Hope he is feeling better. I was surprised that there is no more snow in your pics. So I checked my globe next to my computer to see where you are in Canada. Where is Manitoba? Sorry, I'm now curious, the only place I've been in Canada was Toronto.

He is feeling much better today, I guess the perscription is working. Manitoba is next to Ontario, so we are dead smack in the middle of Canada.

Glad to hear the little man is feeling better. Wow, that river has really risen since I was last out two weeks ago. Should start to go down cause the Red River crested today. Maybe we'll have to dig out more flower beds to build that birm up a little higher lol. That will be a project when my favorite son in-law is away at work. May 15th?????

Wow... we are really far from each other. I'm all the way here in South Florida.

I've never been to Florida but it sure sounds nice especially when our winter hits -40. I just realized I've never even seen an ocean before :(

Well, I guess you will have to come down here and have some dinner with us. We live 2 miles way from the beach. Our winters here are beautiful, but at summer time I can't even stay outside... it's soooo hot.

It was horrible! Today I also found out that my FIL has the same thing and had 2 teeth pulled. They told him if his face swelled anymore that he would have to go to Emergency to go on an IV

About Me
I am a mother to two beautiful boys, who at least try everything I put in front of them to eat. I live in a small town in the middle of freezing cold Manitoba. I have been cooking since I was a child, and LOVE it.
My favorite things to cook
Anything and Everything
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas I get to together with my uncle, and grandfather and make a fruit cake that has been handed down for generations.
My cooking triumphs
I just started up a small restaurant and cook for 20-50 people a day and have not had any complaints!
My cooking tragedies
Baking a cake at the age of 12, I took it out of the oven and thought that you had to turn it over right away to cool it. Well I flipped it on top of my hand, so I threw it up and it hit the ceiling. Well I also found out that it was not cooked through and had cake dripping all over the place. My mom came home as I was cleaning up the mess, she was laughing so hard that she couldn't get mad at me. Thank Goodness!
