Pumpkin Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2009
Thought this recipe was good but needed a few more things. I substitued the vegetable oil for olive oil, did add an extra can of diced tomatoes, added a can of black beans (what is chili without beans?) and added coriander, cilantro, ground cumin and a bit of cayenne pepper--love the punpkin sweet flavor with the spicy chili/cayene spice....will definitely make again. thanks...

Bottom Round Roast with Onion Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2009
Thought this was ok...nothing exciting and the gravy lacked a lot of flavor even after adding garlic and using beef broth. I will not make again.

Cake Balls

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2009
I must say I was a bit disappointed--there are just so many reviews on here with different suggestions that I didn't really know what to use. I did decide to use half of the frosting it called for and used strawberry cake with 1/2 can of cream cheese frosting then covering with white chocolate--but I thought it was just ok. I am going to try these again because the reviews for these cake balls puzzles me-so maybe it was something I did. I do plan to use the strawberry cake with a WHOLE can of cream cheese frosting and coat with white--maybe next year and see what happens--I will not give up on them. My guests thought they were good--but they were not raving about them.

Carol's Arroz Con Pollo

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2009
I thought this was just ok--I did eat it the first night I made it--but had some the next day and thought it was much better--one day makes a huge difference in taste. I did use brown rice (healthier) and had to double the chicken broth in order for the brown rice to cook properly. I did not add the peppers as I don't like them and added some cumin--a nice change. thank you!

Caramelized Brussels Sprouts with Pistachios

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
I followed this exactly but didn't use pistachios because I didn't have any. I thought they were pretty good especially since I have never had brussel sprouts, however, I made them for a dinner and nobody commented on them--my husband liked them, so that's all that really matters. Thanks for the recipe.

Sweet and Sour Sauce II

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
This was GREAT! I used rice vinegar, used 3/4 c brown sugar (and may cut back more next time), used the pineapple juice from a large can of pineapples instead of water and a couple splashes of soy sauce. I threw some of the pineapple chunks in the sauce (just like the chinese restaurant)--it was awesome! I paired this with the fried butterflly shrimp on this site....oh boy are you in for a treat!

Fried Butterflied Shrimp

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
OH my....yummy, yummy, yummy! Made a few changes per the reviews- 1 1/4 cups water, 3/4-1 cup of cornstarch, added some ground cumin, garlic powder and a pinch of cayenne pepper. I also used canned breadcrumbs and it was still great. I wanted a bit of sauce for these so I made the swet and sour sauce II from this site....oh boy, what a treat. Thanks for the great recipe Joy!

Peanut Butter Bars I

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
Is there a more perfect combination? Peanut butter and chocolate?? LOVE IT. Brought these into work and got rave reviews and some new friends :o) I melted 1 1/2 sticks of butter with the peanut butter to help the sitrring process. I also used 3 cups of graham cracker crumbs and used a 7x11....it doesn't get any easier than this....thanks Nancy!

Chicken Broth in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
I followed the recipe using chicken thighs (what I had on hand) and just added more spices; cinnamon, thyme, parsley, bay leaves, nutmeg, rosemary, majoram and sage. I'm not sure if it was the thighs, but the flavor was not there at all when I finally made the soup. I am not giving up on this recipe, I am going to try this with other chicken parts and see what happens. Thank you!

Warm and Spicy Autumn Punch

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
Yummy!!! I made a single batch for me and the hubby on a crisp fall day in October--it was perfect. I prepared the punch as directed and poured it into my small crock pot and kept it on low so that we could enjoy it while working outside. I did not bake the oranges, but instead just studded them with cloves and tossed them in the crockpot--so pretty and smelled awesome. I adjusted the spices according to my taste-which means that I added a few more and might ad mulling spices next time....such a wonderful fall drink. Thanks Michele.

Butternut Squash and Spicy Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
I thought this was very tasty, but I did make some changes. I added some minced garlic, used brown rice plus more than a 1/2 cup to thicken up the soup. I used sweet turkey sausage and sauted it in chardonnay and topped off the soup with some mascarpone cheese as suggested by otehr reviewers. My hubby liked it as well...I will be making this again as butternut squash is my favorite. thanks Dena!

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
This was very good and I followed some tips from the reviews here - which is why ALL RECIPES is the best site for recipes!! I did mix up the sauce in the saucepan to reduce cooking time and put the sauce on the pork chops for the last 10 minutes--I only cooked my pork chops for a half an hour. My husband said the sauce was good, I did not like it at all. Will make the pork chops again, but will try some other sauce.

I followed this recipe exactly except reducing the Olive oil to 2-3 tbsp instead of 6 as suggested by other reviewers. My hubby and I thought this was just ok.

Onion Rice

AWESOME--I made two changes-used olive oil instead of vegetable oil and used brown rice instead of white rice--it was great, and so EASY. This will be used quite often in my household. Thanks Denyse!

Pork Tenderloin with Mustard Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
I thought this pork loin was very tasty. Instead of red wine, I used whiskey--scrumptious!! The tenderloin was so moist and it was perfect even without the mustard sauce. I did prepare the mustard sauce the night before using only 1/2 tsp of mustard powder (per other reviews)and when I tasted it I didn't like it at all. I decided to hold off on disgarding the sauce until I was able to try it with the pork and surprisingly my husband and I really enjoyed it. I will add this recipe to my collection..thanks Therrell Family.

Made these for Halloween this year--turned out perfectly. I thought the cookie had a nice light chocolate flavor and the trick or treaters loved them.
