Slow Cooker Lancaster County Pork and Sauerkraut

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
Ok, maybe I'm partial since I was born and raised in Lancaster, PA, but I love this recipe! Eating this dish on New Year's Day is a family tradition and has continued to be even though I am now in the South. I still have friends who look at me funny when I say "pork and sauerkraut" but if I can get them to try it, they are hooked! I have just purchased a slow cooker and needed this recipe and it was perfect! Thanks!

Kathy's Roast and Vegetables

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
This is the first pot roast I have done in my new slow cooker. I had a 3.5 pound bottom roast and it was done in 6 hours. I put in carrots, potatoes and a whole white onion at the beginning and they were perfect, not overdone at all. My only complaint is that I felt the meat was overshadowed by all the other flavors?? I like my roast beef to have a beef flavor and while very tender, the meat flavor didn't come through. I loved the sauce it created, but my boyfriend was looking for more of an "au jus" sauce.

Apple Crisp III

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
Yum, yum, yum! My boyfriend is sitting here with a huge smile on his face while he eats this... I also did half and half regular sugar and brown sugar and it's perfect! I usually do not like apple desserts, but I tried this and really liked it! So easy too; will definitely use this for company and family.

Slow Cooker Thanksgiving Turkey

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2009
Wow, what a very tender turkey! Mine was 4.75 pounds and was done in 6 hours. I did it the night before so it was ready to put in the slow cooker. Three of us ate this and none of us could taste the bacon (I used 4 pieces) or the Worcestershire Sauce. As most reviewers, I used the gravy packet that came with the turkey and a jar of turkey gravy. The taste and texture was phenomenal. Can't wait to see how it taste on a sandwich tomorrow!

Slow Cooker Chicken Cacciatore

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
Just made this tonight for my boyfriend and his friend who came in from Ohio and all 3 of us gave it 5 stars, with a few adjustments like so many others have made. My package of chicken breasts came with 7 so I used them all. I added 1 can of diced tomatoes, 1 can of tomato paste and used oregano, basil and garlic powder. I cooked it on high for 1 hour and then 4 hours on low and it was so tender! The chicken just fell apart when I tried to take it out of the sauce. This is definitely a keeper!

Slow Cooker London Broil

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2009
Well, I took the advice of a few and only cooked this for about 5 hours... I was quite disappointed that the meat was not very tender and I bought a very good piece of London Broil! I will try this again though, cook it a bit longer and possibly add some cut up onion. I only used half the package of soup and it was not salty at all.

Quick and Easy Sauteed Spinach

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2009
I love spinach and this is very simple and good! Spinach basically cooks to nothing, so use at least 16 ounces for two people!

Zesty Coleslaw

Yum, yum, yum! You can adjust the amount of horseradish if it seems a bit overpowering to you.... the only change I made was to add pepper! Very good!

I was looking so forward to this dinner and was very disappointed. I followed it to a T and it just didn't taste that great.

Best Ever Sausage with Peppers, Onions, and Beer!

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
Ok, let me start by saying that based on flavor, I would give this 5 stars... based on whether it looked like the picture, it deserves 4. The pic makes it look like it turns into a true spaghetti sauce texture... I could not get it there... it was very soupy.... but, despite that, the flavor was fabulous! We served it over rice and have leftovers :) Any suggestions to make this sauce thicker?

Awesome and Easy Creamy Corn Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
I also made this for Turkey Day and it was fabulous! I think I will take the suggestion of one reviewer and add a little of the water from the kernel corn since I like my casseroles just a little wetter... followed this to a T and it was great!

Best Pennsylvania Dutch Chicken Corn Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
OMG I've died and gone to Lancaster County, where I was born and raised! This soup is so good I can't begin to describe the excellent flavor Well worth the time it takes to put together. The only changes I made was the corn, since this time of year there is no fresh corn available, I used 3 cans of white corn, drained. I also did not use the nutmeg as my mom told me that was not in my grandmother's original recipe and only used 1 tblsp. of salt. This is the bomb and will be made over and over!

Nana's Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2009
This is the second apple crisp I have tried on this site and it was far superior than anything I have ever made. I had this for dessert for 12 people and everybody loved it! I did make just a few minor changes, like most others: I used 9 apples; I only used brown sugar; I melted all the butter and one and a halved the topping. After 50 minutes, the topping was perfect! Will definitely make this my apple crisp recipe to go to!

Chicken Florentine Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2010
Holy cow was this scrumpdillyicious!!!! Easily a restaurant quality meal! I read many reviews and only made minor tweaks, but not changing the ingredients. I did the chicken breasts in a skillet and set aside. I then melted the butter and sauteed the spinach (one bag of fresh spinach, you could use more), mushrooms, garlic and just enough onion to taste. I didn't have italian seasoning so I improvised and used parsley, basil and oregano. As suggested, I only used about a teaspoon of the lemon juice. I served it over spaghetti. This is a keeper and will be kept in our rotation!

Ham and Bean Soup II

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2010
First attempt at Ham and Bean Soup and had to pour a lot of the water out of this to get close to the consistency in the picture. Could use a little pick me up in taste, so may add a little hot sauce to the leftovers, but a good flavor.

Garlicky Baked Butternut Squash

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2010
Wow, believe it or not, I have never had butternut squash until tonight. Despite it being a time consuming chore to peel the squash, this recipe made it worth the time and effort! Somebody gave me the squash out of their garden and I had no clue how to prepare it.. this was wonderful tasting and so simple!

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2010
I made this today and was pleased, but not overwhelmed. I did use a sirloin roast, put onion slices on the bottom, added garlic powder, salt, pepper and worcestershire sauce. The meat turned out very tender but I felt like the taste was missing something and couldn't put my finger on it.

Amazing Pork Tenderloin in the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2010
Just made this dish tonight... and wow, it was scrumpdillyicious! Yes, I changed a few things and here they are: first, I did a dry rub consisting of garlic powder, pepper, paprika, italian seasoning, cayenne and basil.... then seared the meat before putting into the crock pot.... I used chicken broth instead of water; I used 1/2 c. wine instead of 3/4 c.; and I added soy sauce without measuring, in addition to worcestershire sauce. I tasted NO wine! I had purchased a pork tenderloin at the store that came with onions, carrots, celery and red potatoes.... all were perfectly done after about an hour on high, and 4 hours on low! And yes, this tastes like a prime cut of beef! We will definitely be making this one again!

Slow Cooker Sweet Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2010
I made this today and it was a HUGE hit. I don't eat sweet potatoes so I am giving this review from 6 people who do and they all said it was 5 stars. The only thing I did different was use fresh sweet potatoes instead of canned; other than that, followed it exactly.

I made this today and it was a HUGE hit! Followed the recipe exactly... only thing I might change is to add something to spice it up a little just because I like spicy things.
