Black Forest Cake II

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2009
I thought because of the reviews this would be awesome. I make a blackforest cake every year for my sons birthday. It's his ablsolute favorite. This weekend we have company and I thought that I'd try this recipe only to be dissapointed. The cake is too fragile, but tastes ok, the buttercream measurement needs to have the liquid increase. I used about 3 tablespoons more cherry juice to make it smoother for spreading. Whipping cream is made with confectioners sugar and that was missing from the recipe. I added about 3 1/2 tablespoons to it. Because there was so many modifications, I give it a three. Also, this is going to make me post a black forest cake that is tasty and not soo sweet! Perhaps you can rewrite the recipe a bit and then get a perfect star : )

D' Best Chicken N' Dumplings

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2011
I have been making dumplings for years. My family was dissapointed in this recipe as well. The dumplings had nothing special going on, and the broth was lacking flavor. I'll stick with my Betty Crocker page 81 Dumplings and then I make my own broth with lots of flavor. I add parsley, sage and poultry seasoning to the dumplings .

Ice Cream Cone Treats

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
Creativity I give 5 stars. I made from scratch a lemon cake, filled the cones about 3/4 full. Baked at 400degrees. Only two cones spilled over, but dont you want to taste them before you serve them? I topped it off with lemon whipping cream and used a decorater tip. They looked like ice cream cones and received many compliments. The only problem I had, was the cones got soft after a few hours. After putting the whipping cream on, I did refrigerate them for about 45 minutes before the party. Perhaps add the whipping cream right before leaving would have been better. I loved this idea! Thanks

Honey Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
Everybody loved it! Simple to make, excellent flavor and guests coulndt wait for dinner. I used ground cloves in my basting sauce. I microwaved the mixture once till melted and added cloves. I basted every 15-20 minutes and I had 18 lbs ham. It was delicious. I was close to the honey bake ham without the price tag ! I will stick with this receipe.

Spaetzle I

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2010
I have other receipes for this and thought that I'd try a new one. This is like elastic! Needs lots more milk to go thru the holes of my spaetzle maker. I added milk and nutmeg to make it work. I added more salt to the water for more flavor

Strawberry Pie II

Reviewed: May 12, 2010
This was an excellent pie. The ones who say it was runny- you probably need to cook the strawberries with the sugar, cornstarch, and water a little longer until thick and constantly stirring it. We had company and made this for the first time for them and said it was the best strawberry pie they had. It wasnt too sweet. I sliced all of my strawberried and layered them in the pie shell. Also remeber to brown the pie shell. It makes a stronger pie shell and serve within two days of making it. Very good !

Napa Cabbage Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2010
This didnt go over well. I have made this in the past and remembered how good it was. I used two packages of ramen as suggested. I found this to be too much ramen. When I try this again. I will not use butter or put them in the oven. The changes I will make are to cut cabbage and make the dressing. When I'm ready to serve, I will add the ramen and almonds out of the package. They are crunchy enough without the butter. Pour on the dressing and add the package from ORIENTAL ramen seasoning and noodles and almonds. Mix well and serve. This is how I remember it and I believe it only needs one package of ramen.

Peach Cobbler Dump Cake II

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2009
This was a tasty dessert. I added more peaches with its juice so it did make it a bit runny, I should have also added more gelatin. But otherwise it was gone as fast as I had made it. The family loved it.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2010
I used the 9x13 pan and thought it was fine. Any smaller of a pan like a 9x9 and the brownies would be so thick and really goey. I lean more towards the cake brownie rathern than the fudge brownie. I agree that it was a good brownie but way too sweet for my taste. Perhaps 1/2 to a cup less sugar would do it. Other than that I will make a gain and try to use the self rising flour and see how much bigger they will get.. Love the crust and the middle wasnt goey. Way to go brooke

Chocolate Mint Cookies I

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2010
To die for ! I used peppermint chocolate and mixed it in with the semisweet chocolates in the saucepan. I did try topping the cookies off with the chocolate, but I think that way is too messy when storing them. Next time I'd put all of the flavoring in the saucepan, Rather than topping the cookies with chocolate, I'd use peppermints that were crused to top it off ! This is soo good. The best chocolate cookie recipe : )

Brown Sugar Smokies

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2010
These are good and was the first thing that dissappeared on NewYears Eve. I suggest that you use a quality bacon that has lots of meat rather than fat. I turned the skewers 3 or 4 times and kept my eye on them while cooking. Some browned sooner than others. I didnt measure the brown sugar, I just sprinkled some on top and called it done. It was appealling to all....

White Chocolate and Cranberry Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
I loved these cookies ! These are flavourfull and addicting to eat. I triple the batch when I make them. I take them out of the oven and let them sit for a couple of minutes before transfering them on to a wire rack. I made nestle toll house cookies and added in cranberrys. They tasted really buttery. This recipe seem that everything tastes just perfect and so is the texture. Two thumbs up !!

Apple Crumb Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2009
Very Good! It needs to be made in a deep dish pie crust. I made it in a regular crust and doubled the crumb mixture as suggested by others and it did spill over. But I lined my cookie sheet with crinkled foil. I did use 2 more tablespoons of flour with the apples to thicken it up. Very tasty. Everyone loved it. I will make it again.

Rosemary Red Potatoes

Reviewed: May 12, 2010
These were ok for our family. The garlic did turn black while cooking but didnt effect the flavor. I think it needed a little more oil. Maybe because I used more potatoes. I perfer the honey roasted potatoes on this site.
