About this Cook
I come from a long family history of growing what you eat. My earliest ancestors settled the area I live in. My 100 yr. old grandmother still does all her own cooking and wastes nothing. My mother could make a meal out of anything on a moments notice.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
Although my mother could make a meal out of anything, she wasn't a very good cook, so I have not kept very many of my family cooking traditions. My husbands family has many (he's a better cook than I) and we use them. Most memorable is the "Pastie", a calzone type steak and potato pocket.
My cooking triumphs
I grew or made an entire meal from scratch. Ground the wheat(grown locally), made the bread, grew the tomatoes, made the cheese, and soon will be collecting eggs from my 14 Buff Orpington hens.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make 100% whole wheat bread. I made bricks. After years of trial and error, I now have people asking me how I make my bread so good. Triumph!

Sweet Washington Cherry Pie
Loved the flavor, but it was a little to runny...I will try to thicken it up next time.

Banana Cream Pie I
The flavor was good and it kept its shape when served, but it was a little too gelatinous for my taste.
