Cranberry Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2011
Made nice gravy. I was expecting more of a tart cranberry taste but I used jellied sauce instead of whole berry. Will have to try it with whole berry sauce next time.

Beef and Onion Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
Not as flavorful as I was hoping but is a good comfort food. We served it over rice. All agreed that it would make an awesome base for stew. Next time I'll add all the stew vegetables and make some dumplings!

Alfredo Mostaccioli

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
This was tasty. A little odd with the mostaccioli - will definitely use fettuccini next time. Did not travel well in a thermos.

Turkey Tetrazzini II

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2010
Good use of leftover turkey. I only made 1/2 the sauce and used leftover gravy for the other half. We had freshly grated Parmesan cheese to use and it was nice and savory. Great with a side of leftover cranberries.

Cheesy Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2010
Pretty good! Two of the kids even went back for a second serving although personal preference would have like a titch more potatoes and cheese. Nice recipe.

Harvard Beets

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2010
Not bad for a basic recipe but needs some tweaking. Needs a bit more cornstarch and a bit of butter. I love Harvard beets and this recipe was ok ... just not the best I've ever made.

Stuffed Kielbasa

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2010
Wish I could give it 4 1/2. Can miss with this combination of ingredients. Will make homemade mashed potatoes next time. Hint ... use a cookie press to layer on the potatoes! I made 3 pounds of kielbasa for 6 of us hoping for leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. Ha! I think there is only 1 or 2 pieces left. Could be a fight to see who gets it!

Breakfast Casserole I

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2010
Nice quick supper. I made it in the morning before work and let it sit in the fridge all day instead of overnight. Lovely presentation and mild taste. I will use more bacon next time, chopped broccoli instead of florets, and maybe a titch more seasoning in the eggs. That little bit of mustard wasn't enough. Thinking of dill ...

Cuban Ropa Vieja

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2010
This was incredibly flavorful and fork tender. I served it over rice with a side of black beans. It served all 6 of us without a single scrap of leftovers as several of us went back for seconds. Will be making this again.

Mouse's Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2010
Plus side: Very creamy, nice texture. Down side: It was just macaroni & cheese. Nothing special. Not good, not bad - just mac and cheese. If I were to make it again, I'd add more mustard and stir in some sharp cheddar.

Sausage Hash With Apples & Sage

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2010
I found this recipe using the ingredient search for hot sausage. Next time I will use 1/2 hot sausage and 1/2 mild just for personal taste. 3 out of 5 of my family LOVED the spicyness ... us other 2 wimps are the ones requesting the mix of mild. Very good. The ketchup sauce truly makes the dish. I served it with poached eggs on top and will definitely be making this again.

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2010
My pickiest eater actually gave this 5 stars, but my husband and I would have liked a bit more sauce. I did make 1 1/2 times the recipe and baked it in a 9x13 pan but it wasn't very creamy. It was very good but not near as creamy as I was expecting..

Scalloped Potatoes and Onions

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2010
Wish I could have given this a 4 1/2. My 3 teenagers loved this and each gave it a 5. Very creamy comfort food. I made a batch 1 1/2 times the original recipe and put it in a 9x13 pan. The potatoes were done to perfection in 1 1/2 hours ... think they may have dried out or been mush if I'd left them in the whole 2 hours. My husband and I both were thinking of things we could add to give it just a bit more zip, but as a comfort food, this is an awesome basic recipe.

World's Best Potato Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2010
My family gave this 5 stars! Just a hint .. don't rush the cooked sauce. I should have let mine cook a bit more to make it half a hair more thick No fault of the recipe -- I was in a hurry. Sweet flavored potato salad and still creamy the next day.

Cream Peas

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2010
These peas were super easy to make, had a great consistency, and this is a terrific base recipe. We needed to add a bit of salt to make it perfect and, to be honest, I'm not entirely certain I added the salt called for in the recipe, but once we added a little at the table, it was perfect!

Busy Day Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2010
I tried this exactly as wrote, I believe. First off, based on my experience, use the smallest crockpot your chicken will fit in. I used a 5 quart and wish I'd used the 3 quart. May have had more BBQ taste. We kept the skin on but then removed it to before eating and couldn't taste any BBQ. I will try this again but will use just breast and the smaller crockpot.

Sarge's EZ Pulled Pork BBQ

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2010
Very simple to put together. I like adding your own BBQ sauce at the end. I really couldn't taste the coffee but it didn't hurt a thing to put it in. Might add a bit more next time .. 50% coffee, 50% broth. Nice and tender. A fun Saturday night supper after doing house and yard work all day.

Steak Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2010
Very tasty! I have to be honest and say I despise bleu cheese even though my husband loves it, so I repaced the bleu cheese with feta. I loved it but my husband pouted! Ha ha! Very filling supper for me although he would have liked a bit more.

Chicken Spaghetti

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2009
Very simple "comfort food." The sauce can be adjusted to meet your needs and likes. Next time I will add garlic or at least garlic mushroom soup, and maybe some green chiles. Very good for a fast meal. I baked it at 350° for 30 minutes.

Tacos in Pasta Shells

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
4 adults and 2 teens all liked this! We were divided 3:3 on if it should rate 4 stars or 5 stars, but since I gave it 5 stars myself, that is the rating it gets! It was pleasantly spicy. Not too much, not too little. I doubled the recipe but followed the instructions exactly including adding the salt, which I rarely ever do. Next time I may eliminate the salt and see what the difference is. It was not salty tasting at all but I just don't like to add salt to my cooking. We had bowls of the sour cream and sliced black onions on the table to add to taste. This is definitely a "keeper" and we will make again. Thanks for a great recipe!
