Fried Cauliflower with Tahini Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
Tried making this dish for the first time (although I ate a lot of similar things living in Jordan). I agree that the browner the better on the cauliflower. I fried one batch "golden" brown and one batch darker brown, and the darker definitely had a sweeter taste. I also added a little paprika as suggested to the sauce. One thing: I would go with a little less lemon juice next time...

Kevin's Cherry Tart

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2009
This was a very good recipe. The filling might have been a little sweet, but then I used sweet instead of tart cherries. Next time I use sweet cherries I'll cut the sugar a little. Very easy and impressive! Thank you!

Cranberry Sauce with Jalapeno Peppers

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
This was yummy. The spice level was just enough to add a hint (without seeds), and the jalapenos added a little bit more texture which was great on sandwiches.

No-Mayonnaise Ranch Dressing

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2010
This recipe tasted very strongly of sour cream. It was very thick, so I might try more buttermilk/less sour cream next time. It also seemed a little bland to me. Next time I'll add fresh garlic instead of garlic powder, because I like my ranch with a strong garlic flavor!

Easy Pumpkin Turnovers

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2009
Easy, but very bland. I didn't like the texture of the filling, and the dough overwhelmed it. Maybe more sugar and spice would help. Also, when I tried to reheat in the toaster oven the next day, they just got soggy and lost any buttery-cripness. Not good for leftovers.

Christmas Fruitcake

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2009
I tried a corner before wrapping for the aging process: delish! My first time both eating and making fruitcake and this tasted like rum-y caramel-y goodness! I left out raisins, as I don't like them, and added almonds, cashews, and macadamia nuts. Can't wait to try it after the mellowing. PS. My BF suggested I call it something other than fruitcake so people will actually eat it. LOL.

Tomatillo Salsa Verde

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
Best salsa verde I've made yet. I made extra and canned it to have on hand all year!

Healthier Graham Cracker Crust

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
This was functional, but not terribly tasty. You do miss the butter (or I did). I also used chocolate graham crackers instead of plain with cocoa powder. I don't think it made a difference.

Sour Cream Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2009
This was my first time making biscuits and these were super easy! Maybe 5 min of prep time, and I just patted the dough into a biscuit shape and put them on my silpat. I like that this recipe is virtually non-fat (I used non fat sour cream and my silpat instead of a buttered cookie sheet). They are pretty bland, though. They don't benefit from the flavor that butter adds. Next time I'll add some cheese and hot sauce in the dough, or maybe a little sugar and spice, depending on how I'm using them. Bland, but super easy, fluffy, moist in the middle, and quick! Thanks!

Unstuffed Cabbage

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2009
I did not like this recipe...it was too much like spaghetti sauce, only too sweet and with WAY too much dill. I did like the use of cabbage, and I will probably use that again in future sauces.

Pecan Sandies

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2009
So good! I used butter instead of margarine, though. Everything else was perfect. Chilled the dough a bit before rolling into balls.

Blueberry Coffee Cake II

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2009
I found this coffee cake very dry and very dense (which my boyfriend actually liked). I may try again using some sour cream, which I find adds a lot of moisture. I liked the fact that the cake itself wasn't too sweet. I think most of the sweetness in coffee cake should come from the topping, and this recipe accomplished this well.

Blueberry Cream Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2009
A perfect recipe. I used low-fat sour cream and it tasted fantastic! I've used this recipe a couple of times now, sometimes halved, sometimes full. It always makes the exact number of muffins, filled to the top of the cups. Moist, sweet, delicious! A favorite of my boyfriend's too.

Sarah's Applesauce

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
I used concentrated apple juice instead of sugar to help sweeten this....if you're looking for a better way to sweeten.
