Chicken Noodle Casserole I

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2013
Good comfort food, but rather bland as written. However, this appealed to my son, who loves noodles in any form. The beauty of this recipe is it's a great base to personalize to your own family's tastes. BONUS: It's a great dish for freezing. Thank you Dawne for the submission.

Chef John's Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2013
Followed the recipe exactly. Sauce was quite thin and didn't have much flavor, though I think the cayenne pepper actually saved it. It was fun trying a different version of the Chicken and Dumplings I usually prepare. Thanks for the post Chef!

Fresh Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2013
A family favorite for many years, though I do change it up from time to time. Sub cranraisins for the raisins, trade almonds for toasted sunflower seeds, change the red onions to green onions. Definitely try adding red grapes sliced in half for a little something extra. As this recipe is so very versatile, it's easy to change to your own family's preferences. Great for bbq's and potlucks as it holds it's texture without becoming soggy ~ enjoy!

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2013
A nice rendition of a true American classic usually found in Mom and Pop Diners all over America. Easy on the pocketbook and a quick recipe to make for busy nights. Didn't have a can of condensed onion soup, so I subbed a packet of Lipton's Onion Soup. Threw in sauteed mushrooms I had in the fridge which gave more flavor to the dish. The simplicity of this recipe makes it one that will be reached for from time to time. Comfort food at it's best! Thanks for the submission Kelly.

Herbed Dumplings

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2013
These were absolutely delicious! Delicate, light, fluffy, perfect dumplings. I did note the suggestion of the original poster (Ronnastefan) and cut back the salt to 1/4 to 1/2 tsp... This is such a versatile recipe with herbs that can easily be changed to complement any dish that would benefit from dumplings. Will definitely become one of my "go to" recipes. Thanks so much for posting it.

Easy Baked Tilapia

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2013
Tilapia is an excellent choice for people who don't enjoy seafood. Mild, adaptable, healthy. The recipe as written is mild and can be adapted to each person's taste buds quite easily. Hubby likes mild and my son and I lean towards spicy so it was a perfect choice for us as each filet was customized to our individual preferences.

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2013
Such an easy, versatile recipe which can be customized to each family's personal likes and dislikes. I often add pineapple, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, carrots, or whatever I have in the fridge that might complement it. My only recommendation would be to use fresh minced garlic instead of the powdered garlic and low sodium soy sauce vs the regular soy sauce to reduce the saltiness of the dish. Thanks MJWagner68 for the submission.

Garlic Prime Rib

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2013
These are fairly standard seasonings for a rib roast, unfortunately though, roasting this piece of meat at such a high temperature (500 degrees) will make the garlic bitter and ruin a very expensive cut. Practice tells one to reduce the heat to 450 - 460 before putting the roast in. Pull the roast at 125 degrees and tent with foil for 10 + minutes which will allow the roast to continue to cook and the juices to absorb. It should settle at 135 degrees for a perfect medium rare!!! Good with changes....

Shepherd's Pie VI

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2013
Okay, I cheated. I didn't have any potatoes on hand, but I did have a bag of "Simply Potatoes with Onion" lurking in the fridge which I used for the mashed potatoes ~ using these made for SUPERB mashed potatoes. Continued to make the dish as directed, but added 1/4 cup of worstershire and sauteed garlic to give the dish more complexity. I know others will scream foul, but I had green beans I needed to use, so I threw those in as well... Not a traditional Shepherd's Pie, but it turned out wonderful!

Traditional Osso Buco

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2013
I must be in the minority after looking at the ratings for this dish.... I usually love Osso Bucco, but after making this 2x, it has a very different flavor that I just didn't care for.

Annex Theater Champagne Cocktail

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2013
For champagne lovers, this is a nice change from a Mimosa or Poinsetta. Adding a twist of lemon or orange adds a different take on this traditional, classic cocktail that is beloved by all.

Holiday Mimosa

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2013
Wonderful easy recipe for the holidays! To ensure the sugar crusted on the rim, I made these the evening before with red and white sugar crystal's and let them "sit up"! Preparing ahead of time, allowed the sugar to last through more than one refill of champagne! Beautiful, festive, fun and turned an ordinary glass of champagne into a work of art. Guests definitely felt special when sipping these!

Special Hamburger Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2013
Family absolutely loved this!!! It is now requested at every barbeque and definitely "dresses" up a burger beyond the normal accompaniments of mayo, mustard and ketchup! NOTE: DO NOT substitute the French dressing for ketchup as it changes the flavor significantly. Thanks Cairol ~ definitely a winner!!!

Grilled Bacon Jalapeno Wraps

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2013
Easy recipe that's simple to make and generally liked by all. To control the heat factor, remove all the seeds and membranes, the more you remove, the less punch from the pepper.... Note of caution: Use gloves when handling the peppers or you just might live to regret it!

Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2013
Love this Ziti!!! Simple to prepare, flavorful, and very easy to modify based on your own family's preferences. I made the recipe exactly as stated with the exception of the spaghetti sauce. As I didn't have any, I defrosted John Chandler's sauce from his "World's Best Lasagna" listed on Allrecipes. I'm sure using his sauce made all the difference! Thanks Colleen for submitting this recipe!

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2013
Nice easy mix of ingredients for the beginning cook as you really can't go wrong with this recipe.... The first time I made this, the recipe was rather mild, the second time I added 1/2 tsp of red pepper flakes, and Italian tomatoes with basil and garlic and it definitely provided more flavor. If you cannot handle spicy foods, this recipe is for you. Enjoy!

Classic Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2012
5 star though a tad on the sweet side for me, but perfect for my hubby's taste buds. Reminiscent of a cole slaw dressing and immediately after mixing the dressing all you can taste is sweet, but this dressing blends beautifully after chilling for 4+ hours and settles right down. Many reviewers noted that the dressing was runny; to counteract that, I added 1/2 the sauce after draining the macaroni and let sit for an hour. This allowed the macaroni to absorb the dressing and gave it an added flavor boost. Much like other reviewers, I added and subtracted to suit the family's preferences, ie., eggs, green onions, etc., but the dressing is really what makes this salad outstanding. Served this with a pork tenderloin recipe from FoodNetwork. The spicy sauce on the tenderloin was a perfect counter for the sweetness of the salad. Outstanding and definitely worthy of 5 stars which are not to be given lightly!

Easy Morning Glory Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2012
Loved these! Subbed whole wheat flour and brown sugar for a healthier muffin, plus I added a banana; couldn't tell the difference. This recipe has so many good things for you in the ingredient list you don't feel guilty at all for having two. Thanks Debbie!

Overnight Asparagus Mushroom Strata

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2012
This was downright tasty. 5 stars for ease, ingredients on hand and the low amount of prep time involved. After reading through the reviews, I consolidated the best changes and I am so glad I did. Cooked the onions with the mushrooms and added crookneck squash (before it went bad in the fridge as I hate to waste food). Added a 1/2 tsp of onion powder and a tbsp of hot sauce to the eggs. Forgot to toast the english muffins, and the strata still turned out fabulous. Served to 11 women on the last day of our Girl's Weekend and every single one of them asked for the recipe. Now that's my idea of success!!! Thanks Shandeen for a wonderful recipe!!!

Dee's Roast Pork for Tacos

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2012
Definitely worth making!!! Used Hot Mexican Chili Powder as it has such a unique flavor and subbed cumin for the oregano as I was out of it! Wonderful flavor, though I didn't find it to be as spicy as many reviewers have noted. Next time I'll add additional cumin, garlic and jalapenos for a bit more flavor. Wonderful - give it a try!
