About this Cook
I'm 27 years old, happily single and reside in Central Florida. I enjoy my friend's and family's company just as much as my solitude. I also love to cook-out and party. It's a habit and a hobby! I love to discover those rare food finds at local harvest stands and learn a new recipe or two. Some of the best cooking advice comes straight from the farmer; and fresh produce is always best.
My favorite things to cook
Chicken. It tastes great, it's healthy, and it's easy to cook. I also like to bake, especially when I have company over. It's fairly easy for me to multitask when I have an entree in the oven. I can accomplish preparing a large meal with little or no help.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother always used a touch "Liqueur" to bring out the hearty flavors of her dishes. Brandy and vodka were like her salt and pepper. She never drank it but she cooked with it all the time. Her creations were always so flavorful, filling and unique. She was such a great cook and many of the techniques I use in the kitchen today I learned from her, including spicing-up my own culinary creations with a splash of my own favorite spirit. I also enjoy grilling. I live in Florida where the grilling season is nearly year round. When I was younger, my uncle would take me and my brother to the Gulf. We'd fish for Mackerel. After we filled the cooler and the long, hot day settled into night, we would head home to clean and smoke the fish for a rewarding and well-deserved dinner. I've obtained many grilling tricks from my family, and every cook-out has been a learning experience and a happy memory.
My cooking triumphs
I had family and friends over for a Labor Day weekend cook-out and tried my hand at kabobs for the first time on the grill. I didn't quite know what I was doing and it was pitch dark outside, but they turned out perfect. How I managed to grill 30 kabobs so perfectly was a stroke of pure luck! I had roasted them on an old tabletop grill that I used on camping trips. The fire seemed a little cool, but the "slow roasting" effect presented me with my greatest grilling achievement. They were a hit!
My cooking tragedies
I stepped up to a 15 sq. ft. stainless grill I was given as a Christmas gift from my mother in 2007. I tried the kabobs again for a family get-together and charred them to ash, but that's not the worst part; While trying to cool the excessive heat from the massive grill, I burned my arm on the hatch door and had to go to the emergency room. It's funny thinking about it now, but it hurt so bad and I lost nearly all mobility in my arm for a week. I guess a bigger grill is not always a better grill! I'm still trying to get used to the darned thing.
