Hi. I'm Kristen. I'm 25 and living out of state from my family so now i get to cook all the time!
My favorite things to cook
Anything with seafood, especially shrimp. I like baking or making any types of desserts. I also love pasta and rice dishes, A LOT.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm from Southern Louisiana so I guess it's cajun cooking. I love seafood and okra gumbo. It is amazing! Crawfish bisque, vegetable soup, and corn soup are also pretty high up on my list of favorite home cooked meals!
My cooking triumphs
I made awesome shrimp creole once. I like cooking at school then sending pictures back home to my parents (I rarely cook at home)
My cooking tragedies
I tried to make Cinnamon rolls once and didn't even turn on the oven then couldn't figure out why they weren't cooked 10 mins later. (Maybe that's not a tragedy, but oh well)

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread
Made this yesterday. I used 1/2c regular flour and 1/2 whole wheat flour and regular milk with a bit of lemon juice. It came out pretty good. It was a little drier than expected but I think that may have been due to using the wheat flour (or I'm used to southern corn bread). Overall, I'd make it again and my husband approved.

Grandma's Chicken Noodle Soup
I was sick yesterday and out of canned stuff so I figured I could attempt making my own. It came out pretty good, but I made substitutions based on what I had...which included a mix of chicken and vegetable broth, some frozen/canned veggies, and canned chicken (my grandmaw gave that to me, I've been wondering what to do with it). I used Italian seasoning, marjoram, and a dash of Tony's Chachere's, and I threw some angel hair pasta in the mix because I don't have egg noodles. Came out good, better than the canned stuff. Hopefully next time I can use a rotisserie chicken though.

Absolutely Fabulous Greek/House Dressing
I knocked this down to 10 servings. I thought I had red wine vinegar, but it turns out I just had red cooking wine, so I used half that and the other half rice vinegar to get the vinegar portion. Still turned out really tasty on my homemade Greek salad today!
