My name is from the Italian word "mollica", which is the white center of bread. Ironically enough, I discovered a few years ago that I am gluten-intolerant, and therefore cannot eat wheat, barley, or rye - some of the most common ingredients of bread! I am also married to the Marine Corps, which also makes life interesting...
My favorite things to cook
I love, love, love to make desert. As Milly from Trigun says: "I have a very unique system. I have a separate stomach for cake and ice cream!" :) I also love to experiment with gluten-free recipes. I enjoy taking old, wheaty things and making them edible! :D
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother and her three sisters (the Sill Sisters) have a tradition of making potato tacos. All the women gather in the kitchen to make these, as it seems to take many hands. It is a wonderful family bonding experience, and the food is amazing!
My cooking tragedies
The first packaged gluten free cake mix I tried was a disaster. It seems like it is a hit and miss with gluten-free items: sometimes they are amazing like the Betty Crocker items, and sometimes they are so awful I would not feed them to my pups! I was looking forward to chocolate cake so badly that when I made this cake, I actually cried when I tasted it. I was so horrible, and I was convinced that I would never eat a decent chocolate cake again! (thank goodness I was wrong!) :)
