...but the second meeting of our supper club finally took place! Just the fellowship was amazing. The two other couples that are involved are so lively, fun and warm that we could have served Alpo and been happy. I can assure you that we did not serve Alpo. Our hosts, Bill and Jana, declared… MORE

I've often wondered about the selection process for for kitchen approved recipes. Before I write much more, I better say that I am not frustrated at all. I don't know the number of recipes being submitted for review, nor do I have any idea how many people are on the team tasked with reviewing… MORE

...or maybe even the year! All these thoughts have to go somewhere or they'll be lost, and wouldn't that be a shame? I'm very hopeful that I will be able to share my basement herb garden with you in the near future. It has grown wonderfully! I may not have enough basil to make pesto, but I… MORE

There is a lot that I am just bursting to say. But sometimes the better part of valor is to stop bumping the gums. I truly respect each of you, even those with whom I vehemently disagree politically and scientifically. I'm old enough to realize that facts and figures come and go, and the… MORE

It's been a pretty busy time in the kitchen for me these last couple of weeks. Before I get into that, I need to carp at AllRecipes for a little bit. The primary reason I subscribed to AR was for the ability to blog. It seems as though the blogging feature on this site is a child, and an ugly… MORE

Sorry, but I wearied quickly of staring at a blank title line. It's been a long while since I lasted posted a blog entry, and I'm just not used to coming up with titles anymore. Recently, I posted a recipe for a cocktail called the Tangerine Dream Cocktail. It was one of those odd things in… MORE

We are slowly getting used to living in our new community, and one of the things we've decided to start doing is a traveling dinner club. The person who was our realtor, and is becoming a very good friend, suggested this, and since we certainly miss our monthly get togethers we had in New… MORE

When I first started to blog on AR, I did it to both help me learn to cook, and to relay my experiences to other people who are at my level. It was a way of forcing me to learn. If you try to teach, you had better know something about the subject, right? Somehow I got way off that path.… MORE

After dropping my daughter off at school today, I treated myself to a Cappuccino and a blueberry scone. For some reason, I just kept driving west this morning. I went through Ghent, fondly remembering the pizza I had at KB's. The morning light was glorious on the fields of corn and soy. As I… MORE

We are in our new home, and it is a beaut! Sure, it has all of the creaks and groans of an older home. (Both of us were born/made in 1958.) The home went through some cosmetic surgery whereas I am still saggy and well, old looking. Aside from cosmetics, the functionality of the house has been… MORE

About Me
I'm old and smelly, kinda like a really good salami with that really nice white mould all over it.
My favorite things to cook
Meat, carbs, meat, carbs, meat, carbs and did I mention meat?
My favorite family cooking traditions
Drop a plate of Pierogis and sausages in front of me and watch my eyes glaze over in pure joy.
My cooking triumphs
Schweinebraten mit Knoedel und Krautsalat. Also Edel Hirsch Gulasch was very nice. I make killer Spaetzle and Knockerl also.
My cooking tragedies
There aren't enough electrons in cyberspace! :) Actually, the tragedies usually involve well intentioned creativity out of control.
