About this Cook
Madly in love with my husband and teenage children. I started cooking and baking in highschool took a break from "really" cooking/baking after my second child because I went to work full time. I am finally trying to get back into the groove, I forgot how rewarding it is, how happy and thankful people get when they eat a really good dish... this site is sooo helpful! I think its almost time for me to start posting some of my own stuff, we will see!
My favorite things to cook
I like trying new vegetarian recipes that both my meat lovin' hubbie and my picky vegetarian daughters love! I like coming up with easy meals with what I have on hand, and I love love love dessert, we would eat it with every meal if I could find a way to make sugar good for you!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making holiday cookies, and cakes.
My cooking triumphs
Every time my family makes special requests, asks for subsequent helpings or when my dish/desserts are the first to get eaten at gatherings and potlucks.
My cooking tragedies
I guess if your kids did not like meatloaf when they were meat eaters they probably wont like it vegetarian kids always seem to remember the "icky" meals. I have a hard time using gelatin, and yeast in recipes, but I am getting better!

Vegetarian Shepherd's Pie I
delicious! Have made this twice now and while it was good the first time, the key for me was to season the bulgar and kasha a lot and cook it in vegetable broth with garlic and onion. I had ever cooked with either of them so it was a fun and yummy experience. I also added celery. It was a hit with my family and pretty hearty. It is veeery time consuming, I will only make it on the weekends from now on.

White Sangria
This is my go to recipie for sangria or adult punch for a crowd. Be careful it can sneak up on you! I add lots of fruit...have also used apples, pear, pineapple, its no fun with only one slice of fruit in the glass. Try it with frozen fruit in place of ice to keep it chilled for a bridal shower, etc. I use trader joes "2 buck chuck" . The recipe gives you a lot of room to play with different flavored liquor (mango rum, flavored vodka in place of scnapps). But definately a keeper the way it is, too.

Vegetarian Chickpea Sandwich Filling
You will want to double the batch! I made this recipie several times and it is quick and delicious. I prefer green onion, otherwise the onion has overpowered the other flavors. Great wrapped in lettus, pita, whole grain bread, and with a fork. Thanks for sharing, sandwiches can be a bit tricky for my vegetarian daughters, this makes packing lucnh easy!
