I made this chili, as-is, for a chili cook-off at work and took home first prize. I usually make my chili with jalapeno peppers, but I went with this recipe since not everyone likes that much kick. I think I'm a convert to not having jalapeno's in the chili.
The only real changes I made were, to add 2 cans or red beans instead of 3 and I couldn't find Italian sausage, so I used Jimmy Deans sausage instead. I also fudged and added more bacon bits and a bit more cayenne.
Overall, it's been one of the best chili's I've had and the pot I took to work was gone in minutes. Everyone loved it.
