Country Ham

Reviewed: May 4, 2011
Great recipe! I live in the south and get fresh ham from my uncle who raises pigs and cows for slaughter...needless to say I'm always looking for a fresh way to prepare the meat! I did add molasses (a healthy 'splash'), used dark brown sugar instead of light and selected fresh made peach jam from our seasonal canning which I think is a world apart from store-bought. I liked this recipe enough to pass it on to the old biddies in the family! Thanks for sharing!

Triple Dipped Fried Chicken

Wonderful recipe, very similar to my great-grandmother's old family recipe. I added seasoned salt instead of regular salt, added an extra tsp paprika and a tsp of chili powder, 1/4 tsp cumin and I also used shortening to fry the chicken instead of vegetable oil. It was amazing.

Easy Lemon Cookies

My aunt made cookies like these for years but would NOT share the recipe! I made these over Thanksgiving when she was visiting and she was so shocked that they were just like her's. I used the same recipe idea and made chocolate and strawberry too. Thanks for a great recipe and the last laugh!

French Pastry Pie Crust

Wonderful flavor and super easy. The only change I made was using butter flavor crisco instead of shortening as the recipe calls for or butter as some other reviews used. It sort of gives you the best of both worlds and is a must in any baking I do. I loved this recipe and will use it again.

Chewy Coconut Cookies

Fabulous and super easy. Made in no time and had all ingredients on hand. I did use crisco brand butter flavor shortening instead of plain butter. I think it makes it a little better and I do this for all cookie recipes. My 6 year old hates coconut so I was surprised when she wanted to lick the spoon. One taste and she proclaimed, "Not bad....got any more?" Everyone loves them and these have definately made my holiday baking list. Thank you for sharing such a great recipe!

Chicken and Corn Chowder

I had great success with this recipe. Served it with homemade biscuits and honey butter. My entire family ate it...loved it....and, more importantly, asked me to make it again. My husband did ask that I add more bacon and do it in the slow cooker so I added 2 more pieces bacon, a tbs of the grease and put it in the crock pot for 4 hours on low heat. I also shredded the chicken instead of cubing it. Wonderful!

Bunny Cupcakes

Made for my daughter's class party. Omitted coconut as none of the students would eat it. Used icing inside the ears instead and worked well. Added a gumball coverd in icing for a tail and used toothpicks to hold together (easier druing transport down long country roads...). Very cute, super easy and have passed out the recipe to many other moms!!!

Deep Fried Oreos®

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2010
A favorite at our hometown's annual Trail Days Festival each May. Was my breakfast the day of my wedding, actually....I omitted the egg, milk and vegetable oil and opted for Hungry Jack pancake mix with water. Always....always top with powder sugar. Great in the winter when Oreo has their Pepermint Oreos! Can use the same method to deep fry Twinkies, too- but don't forget a stick when doing those!
