Chef John's Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2012
What a delicious soup! I had about 1/2 cup of a homemade cheese sauce leftover from some macaroni and cheese that I'd made a few days ago that I threw in with the soup. I have 3 picky eaters and all three kids gobbled this right up. This will be going on a regular rotation in our home. Thanks!

Extreme Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2012
This is a perfect chocolate cake recipe! I always use 1 cup of hot brewed coffee in place of the boiling water. You can't taste the coffee once it's been baked, but boy oh boy does it bring out the flavor of the chocolate. It doesn't get any better than this! It's moist, rich, and truly a perfect chocolate cake.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2012
I thought this recipe was fantastic! I didn't have any onions on hand so I used some onion powder in the cheese sauce and it gave it a lovely flavor without overpowering the cheese. The last 10 minutes of cooking time, I took off the foil and let the oven get the tops of the potatoes a little "toasted" and crispy. Fantastic side dish!

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2012
Absolutely delicious! I added red whine, garlic, 3 times the cornstarch and used beef base instead of bouillon for a richer flavor. I also added one TBS of worchestershire and a TBS of tomato paste. The flavor was so rich and the beef was incredibly tender. This was perfect with baking powder biscuits.

Sour Cream Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2012
This frosting was absolutely delicious! The only thing I changed was I added an additional 1/2 ounce of unsweetened chocolate to give it just a little boost of extra chocolate flavor. It's so smooth and silky. It was a perfect compliment to the cake.

Homestyle Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2012
My husband and I absolutely loved this recipe! The only thing I changed was we used ground turkey since we don't care for beef. The best stuffed peppers I've eaten, hands down. Mmmmmm

Cheeseburger Soup I

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2011
This is a fabulous soup! It's super easy to change it up to fit your family's tastes. I like to add half velveeta and half sharp cheddar and I double the meat (we use ground turkey). I also add beef broth instead of chicken. I only add about half of the potatoes called for. I make this about once a month and always making a double batch to throw in my freezer. Its freezes and reheats beautifully.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2011
This was a great recipe. I so wished I hadn't followed someone ele's advice to soak my noodles in warm water for 20-30 minutes instead of boiling them. The result was the noodles turned into a paste and tasted raw. *shudder* Take the time to cook the noodles properly and you'll be pleased.

Cowboy Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2011
I love this recipe! It's so versital. I added an extra cup of oatmeal like other's suggested. I also used 1/4 cup of creamy peanut butter and 1/4 cup of oil instead of just oil. I added 2 tsp of vanilla and about 3/4 cup of chocolate chips in addition to the butterscotch. I also used butter instead of margerine since I never have it on hand. This would be great as a oatmeal raisin cookie w/ cinnamon, a chocolate chip oatmeal cookie....really the sky is the limit. I do lightly "slam" the cookie sheet on the counter to get all the air out of the cookie. The result is a slightly crispy exterior and super chewy on the inside. This is a fantastic recipe that will be used over and over.

Classic Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2011
This recipe was very good! I did change things up a bit to suit my families likes. I left out the celery, green pepper, carrots and pimentos. I added, 4 chopped hard boiled eggs, 1 roasted red bell pepper, 1/2 can sliced olives, some small cubes of cheddar cheese and 1/4 cup of sweet pickle relish. Mmmm my whole family gobbled it right up. I think this is a great " base" recipe, esp since you can add and take away whatever you want and it still turns out delicious.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2011
I'm suprised this recipe has gotten such rave reviews. The cookies spread out so much and they had a crunchy texture. A really good snickerdoodle should be crunchy on the outside and have a nice soft slighty chewy inside. I won't be wasting my time with this recipe again.

Chicken Makhani (Indian Butter Chicken)

This recipe is absolutely delicious! I loved how you put in crushed cashews to thicken the sauce vs. using cornstarch. This will be a regular meal in our household from now on.

Ruth's Grandma's Pie Crust

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2011
I'd give this 4.5 stars. The taste and texture of the crust is out of this world. My one and only complaint is that the dough was super soft and a little hard to work with even after being chilled for several hours. It was well worth the small hassle of the dough to get the final product.

No Bake Chocolate Oat Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2011
Using a whole cup of butter makes these way too soft and salty. Mykids took one bite and spit them out, I don't blame them. I'll stick to my regular no bake cookies. What a waste of ingredients.

Mall Pretzels

What a fun and EASY recipe! This turned out perfectly. I made the dough in my bread machine and then easily rolled out my pretzels. My family raved over the taste. I was a superhero for the evening. This will definitely be a staple in my household.

Nacho Cheese Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2011
I rate the cheese sauce a 3, but the cheese sauce w/ some minced jalapenos a 5.....so overall average of a 4. The cheese sauce was smooth and creamy.....but not much of a "cheesy" flavor. The addition of about a tablespoon of minced jalapenos really made this recipe pop.
