I've made these cookies twice. The first time, I took the advice of all the reviewers and used all butter, soaked my raisins, etc. What I ended up with were thin, runny cookies that were very flimsy and too soft. This time, I followed the original instructions, but I baked them for 8 minutes. They were absolutely perfect! Just crispy enough to hold together, but not hard and crunchy. The raisins were juicy and tasty! I think the problem the first time was that by soaking the raisins, it added more moisture to the cookie, which caused it to be like a flat pancake. I also believe the smaller the "drop" the better. This made 68 cookies for me, not the 36 that the recipe states. My "drops" were just over a heaping teaspoon. One last thing...I ran out of my old fashioned oats at 2 & 1/4 cups. To make up the difference, I had two packets of maple & brown sugar instant oatmeal laying around. I put it in and OMG it worked and they were awesome! Hands-down the BEST oatmeal cookies I've ever had!
