The Real Mojito

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
Pretty good. DEFINITELY needs all the sugar, plus a little more for my taste. These are a good base, with a little tweaking I think they can be perfect. Until them, I'll stick with the strawberry mojito mix from a local store.

Kentucky Bourbon Balls

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
My boyfriend really liked these and the bourbon taste really came through, but they were a little too soft for my liking, especially if they are left out of the refrigerator for any period of time. They were also messier to coat than my other truffles (I used the easy decadent truffle recipe to make a variety of other flavored truffles) as dipping these in chocolate, even after I had rolled them into balls with toothpicks and frozen them in the freezer, wanted to come apart in the chocolate.

The Best Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2011
I've tried several mashed potato recipes from this website, but this is the first one like what I've been looking for! These are dense, rich, creamy mashed potatoes like the ones I enjoy at nice restaurants. They are definitely not the healthiest, which is why I cannot make them very often. My boyfriend also agrees that they're excellent :)

Alaska Salmon Bake with Pecan Crunch Coating

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
This was a very easy recipe with a great taste! We did as another reviewer suggested and used the honey mustard instead of making it ourselves. When I make this again, though, I plan not to chop the pecans up as small to give even more texture (put the pecans in the blender and they were the same consistency as the breadcrumbs)

Cha Cha's White Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2010
This is a great recipe. We already knew we weren't going to want it super spicy, so we only used the chopped green chile peppers. Also, we used a variety of beans and added corn as well. It turned out really hearty and we will definitely use this recipe again in the future.

Excellent, only change we made was to add sliced almonds for some extra texture, turned out great!

The World's Best Turkey

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2010
I followed the recipe to the T (except added some herbs for flavor) and would have to say that this turkey came out ok. It is good if you are used to dry turkey at Thanksgiving (who hasn't experienced a few too many of those?) but was not the best turkey I've had. The parts of the bird that weren't submerged in champagne/juices actually turned out pretty dry (did 3.5hrs for 12.5lbs of bird) but the parts that were submerged were pretty juicy. If I didn't add some herbs I think I would have thought it was bland, as some others have mentioned. Overall this was a decent recipe, but not "the one" I want to use to wow family in November. I'll keep hunting though!

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2010
Worth every star! Followed the recipe except I misread and put the onion in upon cooking (rather than the night before), also took a tip from another reviewer and put garlic inside as well. I was skeptical because I thought cooking chicken uncovered for so long would result in a dry bird, but other reviewers are indeed correct that the meat is falling off the bones. My boyfriend said it was the best chicken he'd had in his life (haha..) I will definitely be making this again!

Amy's Cilantro Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2010
Wish I had read the reviews more carefully, because I went on a wild goose chase looking for tomatillo salsa when I could've just bought salsa verde! Anyway, once I figured that out, the preparation was easy and the result is great :) Can't wait to share with friends tonight! I thought the spiciness was just perfect for me, I am someone who likes spicy foods, but not to the point of feeling like my mouth's on fire.

Ultimate Frozen Strawberry Margarita

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2010
We LOVED this! I have a pretty large blender, so when it says to fill a blender with ice, I think we had to increase the other ingredients accordingly. We ended up using the same amount of tequila and triple sec, but increased the strawberries to 16oz and the limeade concentrate to 6oz. This is just like the strawberry margaritas at our favorite Mexican restaurant in town, we will definitely be making this again and again!!!

Cinnamon Bread Delight

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2010
This bread turned out great, was very moist and tasty. Next time we'll put nuts (walnuts or pecans) in it. Was very easy to make and the kitchen smelled great.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2010
Made this tonight for my boyfriend and I, thought it was pretty good, but a little too ketchup-y. Next time I think I'll use less ketchup and maybe replace it with a bbq sauce. Otherwise is was very tasty and easy, will definitely be using this recipe to make it again.

Spinach Brownies

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2010
I made several revisions to this recipe based on other reviewer's comments, as well as what I had on hand, so please consider this when reading my 3 star review (i.e. 3 stars is not for the recipe as is). I used chard instead of spinach, added bacon, used whole wheat flour instead of white, cut the butter way down to 2tbs, increased the milk to 1 1/4 cup, added a few cloves of minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and pepper, and sauteed the onions before baking. All in all, a good recipe - had a great texture, looked nice, healthy, smells good, etc. However, I probably won't make this again because as another reviewer mentioned, I found it to be a bit bland (even after all of the enhancements). If I were to make it again, I would take the suggestion of increasing the salt or using a saltier/more flavorful cheese like feta instead of mozzarella. EDIT: I came back and added an additional star because my boyfriend liked these a lot.

Pico de Gallo Chicken Quesadillas

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2010
Excellent recipe! We used whole wheat wraps and venison instead of chicken, omitted the olive oil and instead used a mist of olive oil cooking spray before starting the quesadilla itself (to cut back on calories). We served it with guacamole (Bob Cody's recipe) and sour cream.. turned out GREAT. My boyfriend said it was the best venison meal he's had. We will definitely be making this again, so healthy and delicious!

Guacamole

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2010
Followed tips from other reviewers (a little more lime juice and cilantro, as well as the addition of cumin) and it turned out GREAT. I am normally not a huge fan of guacamole, but needed to use up some avocados in the fridge. I can't wait to finish off the rest of it this evening, my boyfriend also loved it. Five stars completely.

The Best Meatballs You'll Ever Have

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2010
We made these with venison and followed the directions for the most part, except for the cooking part (followed the advice of other reviewers and baked in the oven before letting cook up in the sauce). These turned out GREAT, we will definitely make again. We prepared 5lbs of meat, and for this I only added 3 teaspoons of pepper flakes, because I felt like the full serving would have been too spicy. I think if they were more spicy I would not have enjoyed them as much.

B and L's Strawberry Smoothie

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2010
Pretty good! I followed the advice of other reviewers and started with less sugar (1T) and vanilla (1t) because I thought I could always go sweeter. I did feel that it was not sweet enough, so I did add the sugar back in (didn't feel like I needed to add more vanilla) to 3T total. I guess it's really just personal preference.

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2010
5 Stars all the way!! Followed the recipe exactly, used a local favorite bbq sauce and was not disappointed! The meat was tender and falling apart after being in the slow cooker on high for four hours. We will be making this again and again. Thanks so much!
