In three weeks the Midwest Roundup at CatHill’s will be a happening. It seems that because I will be the only male AR member showing up, that I am somehow excess baggage. Magnolia Blossom has promised me space in the trunk for the ride. Lady Sparkle seems sympathetic to some degree. She’s… MORE

Easter weekend was very different, this year. On Friday evening, our daughter and her family took us to a hockey match in Grand Rapids. She had a suite reserved for everybody and the club furnished a fruit platter, popcorn and the first round of non-alcoholic beverages. Our Griffins lost to… MORE

Finally! Progress has been made in my weight loss! Purely accidentally, though. I have not been trying at all! I returned to most of my eating habits prior to December with the exceptions that I am eating far more raw veggies, whole grains and raw fruit as well as drinking incredible amounts… MORE

The condition was discovered in a PET scan and has been monitored ever since. This can… MORE

Two more weeks remaining of this radical diet plan that I’ve been on. Except for three meals of white chicken meat, the diet has been very much influenced by vegetarian food. There was one meal of eggs, also. This kind of eating is very foreign to me and I am having a difficult time dealing… MORE

If only we were amoeba and could reproduce without the need of male and female. No need for marriage or the fragile tests of courtship. No misunderstanding between genders. No division during child rearing. No conflicts because of gender based decorating preferences. The malls might actually… MORE

Nothing like a medical issue to create medical issues, or so it seems. My last appointment was to clear up a weight problem. I have been steadily gaining weight even though I have been on a low fat, low calorie diet coupled with regular exercising five days each week for a minimum of thirty… MORE

“Hey! Squamous Cell! You awake? Look at me!”That’s me, in the morning as I begin to get ready. I’m looking in the mirror trying to wake the killer inside me.“Can you see me real good? ... Yeah? … I have something for you.”Then, using both hands, I would flip off the image in the mirror. “D@mn… MORE

My dear companion of fifteen years has had serious health issues during the past few weeks. It all came on at once and if I didn’t have such an attachment for her I would have had second thoughts about letting the money go to help get her better.  I know I should expect problems because of her… MORE

About Me
I’ll be 66 years old, soon; Married for 44 years; (Been very fortunate that my wife and my girlfriend both live with me- in the same body); largely self-sufficient life; a married son; a married daughter; three granddaughters; three grand-dogs; a grand-snake; In January 2011, I’ll become officially retired. My current status is unemployed. I lost my job on July 3 of 2010; Christian religious belief but do not subscribe to any denomination; I’m a sentimental fool; do all of our home repairs; enjoy photography; wood working; rock collecting; metal working (actually, I would like to call it fire working because the fire is what I like to work with. Metal just happens to be the medium- seems to work better than wood or canvas.)I am fortunate to have a small workshop to do the woodworking and metalworking. No. IT IS NOT A MAN CAVE. It is just a place for the neighborhood guys to come when their wives have something for them to do.
My favorite things to cook
Soups. How can I go wrong? They are a great way to use up leftovers and those veggies that are approaching the end of their usefulness. They are always an original recipe.
My favorite family cooking traditions
If creating impulsive menus and recipes is a tradition then, (I guess) we have a tradition.
My cooking triumphs
Without a doubt, my own recipe for a Reuben Sandwich. It has been a demanded item for many years and I shared it in my AR blog. http://allrecipes.com/Cook/13101603/BlogEntry.aspx?postid=204609
My cooking tragedies
Ohhh! Too many. I have been able to throw them out and have something new before my wife gets home. Most of the time, anyway.
