About this Cook
I'm newly married for the second time with two older children and one younger little girl. My husband loves to eat, and I love to cook! Cooking at home saves so much money versus eating out or buying snacks. I love trying new recipes!
My favorite things to cook
Southern cooking and a little bit of this-and-that. I love finding new snack recipes and adapting old recipes for new flavor. I don't stick to just one genre of food... We'll try anything once!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Chocolate covered cherries for Christmas. And Kentucky bourbon balls. It's from my grandmother, and we do it every year.
My cooking triumphs
I have learned how to make an awesome meatloaf! My secret is Dale's Steak Seasoning. A few TBsps of that give it a rich wonderful flavor. And don't skimp on the onion or bell pepper!
My cooking tragedies
The first time I made deviled eggs, they were so bad that the dogs wouldn't even touch them. I swear I thought you were supposed to add like two tablespoons of salt to eggs! So wrong.

Buttercream Icing
I had a rather large cake so I made two batches of frosting. One with all butter to use as a crumb coat and filling, and one to use as the main frosting and piping. The all butter was lovely and wonderful and I will make it like that again. And honestly, the batch with shortening was kind of gross, didn't spread nearly as well, and I'm truly disappointed. It piped okay, but what difference is a pretty cake if it doesn't TASTE good?

Marshmallow Fondant
My very first try with this fondant didn't go over great, but it was my fault. I used drop color instead of gel, which I think added too much moisture to it. When I made it the second time, I bought the Wilton brand color and BOOM! This was amazing! It took the color wonderfully, was so very easy to use, and it was very easy to "paste" fondant decorations on the cake I made using just a drop of water. I used powdered sugar instead of cornstarch or flour when rolling. I have a bakery friend who has asked for my recipe because of the ease and the wonderful taste!
