Slow Cooker Beef Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2010
Despite the unappetizing picture accompanying the recipe, this turned out delicious. I had a bottom round and no clue what to do with it. I was skeptical about such a simple recipe - but I lacked ingredients for other recipes. I just put the beef and some potatoes and red onion, in the crock pot (after browning the beef), added the two sauces and left it on low for 10+ hours. Everyone loved it. I especially liked that it had a bit of a kick! This recipe is a keeper!

Indian Chicken Curry II

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2011
I love curry and this recipe really hit the spot. I also made a few changes. I didn't have tomato paste so used a small can of tomato sauce. Didn't use a bay leaf either cos was all out. I added baby potatoes (parboiled them first) and cut up green/red/orange peppers. Next time I will add cauliflower and broccoli. I omitted the last step as when I tasted the simmered curry it was great and did't need a thing - so no lemon or cayenne (it was hot enough for me). I added it to a bed of rice and really loved it. This is a keeper. Now what do I do with the half can of coconut milk? LOL

Rugelach

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2013
Was surprised how easy the dough was to make and how far the dough went. I got about 70 rugelach out the dough. They were a huge hit and I'll be making them again and experimenting with fillings. I made half with cinnamon/raisin/hazelnut and other half with raspberry jam (heated in micro with 1 tbsp sugar), dark choc and hazel nuts. And I definitely recommend doing an egg wash on the rolled rugelach otherwise they look dull.

Chocolate Bar Pie II

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2008
Everyone loved the pie. I would give it a 5 but it didn't set very well even when I left it in the freezer for a while. I am not American and don't love Hersheys so out of everyone I probably enjoyed it the least but everyone else LOVED it.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2008
Ok, one caveat before I start. I only now noticed that I was supposed to add water...the 3 breasts I used were covered with the soup so I'm not sure I understand... The chicken is delish but the biscuit dough has been in the crockpot for at least 90 mins, and it looks like its liquifying or becoming mushy. They are not retaining the round ball shape we made them in. Maybe that is how its meant to be? I don't know cos I've never made dumplings before. Maybe I used the wrong biscuit dough - Grands? We only rolled up about half the tin cos in pieces it seemed like a lot. So, in a nutshell, hubby and I like it but we're still waiting for the dumplings to cook through and we're not sure how exactly we'll know..:-) In the meantime we ate the chicken on the left over biscuits that we baked. :-)

Keon's Slow Cooker Curry Chicken

Reviewed: May 9, 2012
I pretty much followed the recipe but didn't have Cayanne pepper so I just added more curry. I also added cauliflower, broccoli and zuchini - I will add potatoes next time as there was a lot of sauce. I also used boneless, skinless chicken thighs as they have more flavor than breasts. I will make this again and add more vegies.

Ground Beef and Cabbage

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2013
I made it in my crockpot. Added can of tomato sauce to have more liquid. I fried the onions, garlic and meat first and then added it to crockpot with the rest of the ingredients. Just good hearty winter meal. I prefer meat in cabbage but who has time to decore cabbage and cook the leaves, roll etc...:-) This tastes same but is easier.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2008
I followed the recipe fairly closely but added more garlic, spices, 1/2 cup red wine and other vegies like zuchini and green beans. Omitted the celery. And added more stock. I also added barley cos I love barley. My hubby and I liked it but didn't LOVE it. It wasn't flavorful enough for us...

Mushroom Barley Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2008
Not quite sure about this one. Was easy to make. It tasted a bit oily to me and I didn't over do the olive oil, I think its the beef broth. I cut up the mushrooms a bit finer than sliced and that came out well. The soup seems to lack seasoning - I added salt and pepper but it was still a bit bland. I'm not a very experienced cook, so was not sure what other seasoning would improve the recipe. Not sure I'll make this again...maybe it will taste better when its sat for a while?

I followed the recipe to a T except that I added cauliflower, broccoli and some worcestershire sauce. I too used merlot. Its tasty but I wouldn't rave about it. Bit disappointed actually.

Stuffed Celery

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2010
I made these for Thanksgiving last night and I was very disappointed. They were utteryly tasteless. I salvaged them by adding some worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, black pepper and a bit of Marmite (I am South African and love the stuff. Most Americans hate it so I didn't publicize it). It tasted vastly improved but I would NOT make this again.
