Thai-Style Tilapia

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2009
While I did not follow this recipe, but mostly got inspired by it, I did combine the onions and coconut milk (I used hot Berber spice, curry, dried ginger, lemon juice and a handful of flaked coconut at the end) and simmered the fish. This was something that I never do with fish(usually always flour and pan fry). The whole family from my 3 year old to my 13 year old, enjoyed it and ate everything up, no leftovers. And the most incredible thing was that I did it with frozen fillets (I was in a jam) and still it was lovely. Thanks for the inspiration!

German Red Cabbage

Very good proportions of spices! This side dish is a staple of Fall for my European in-laws.I added homegrown/homesmoked cooked bacon....mmmm...The only thing that I will change next time is that I will add less water as I found it had a little too much. Thanks!

Dutch Babies II

Reviewed: May 29, 2011
The secret to success is indeed warmed milk and warmed eggs. Like the other reviewer , I zapped the milk for 30 seconds in the microwave while I let the eggs warm in hot tap water. I have used duck and goose eggs with this recipe for even more spectacular results! I could see using this as a "crust" for spinach or asparagus and cheese and I have rhubarb that I am going to compote and use as filling.Thank you for the recipe.

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2011
I just served this recipe (which I quadrupled) to my gang of 10. All gave 2 thumbs up! If you are looking for light and fluffy pancakes that drink the syrup up ....mmmm...this one is for you. This is my new ''family'' recipe! I bought those premixed boxes only once , they are full of stuff you can't pronounce (if you can't pronounce it , you shouldn't eat it LOL) and really this recipe didn't take any longer to make and it's much less expensive as well! I also would like to note that it doesn't have that soda taste which I can't stand (some recipes taste like baking soda) as the proportion of levening agents is just right. Happy cooking and thank you for sharing this great recipe!

We really loved this recipe! The banana loaf was moist and delicious. The crumble makes it extra special. We made extra crumble and added oats to the crumble mix.

Soft Giant Pretzels

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
I had never made pretzels before, but had no problems with stickiness at all. They were fabulous! I had to make 4 batches in a row as it was during the weekend and we had drop-in visitors that kept devouring them! Thanks you for the recipe!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2010
We added whole kernel corn to this because we like it that way. Otherwise made it exactly as called for in the recipe. Very good. Lightly sweet (not overly sweet for us) and we found it quite buttery (could smell the butter in the kitchen). My husband even said it smelled like a batch of hot butered sweet corn as I passed by holding the platter. Thanks for the recipe.

Baba Ghanoush

Reviewed: May 28, 2011
Very happy with this recipe. I think the blackening of the eggplant does give it that smoky flavour that our household enjoys. This is a lovely low calorie, healthy dip and spread, we use it on falafel sometimes for a different taste. I would recommend this as a great base recipe that you can tweak according to your own taste. Some like more garlic, some less, some like lemon, some less...

Rum-Spiked Horchata

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2010
This drink is very nice. It has a flavour that is reminiscent of coconut perhaps, reminds you of an Island drink which is nice when it's a snowy cold day outside! We had this without the rhum. We will be using the rice to make a hot rice pudding. Thank you for the recipe.

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

I liked this recipe a lot ,and will use again , however will cut the sugar by 1/4. I will also try with WW flour and Splenda as suggested. Also, I drop cookies on sheet, they spread nicely as they cook.

Cheddar Puff Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2008
I followed the recipe exactly. They turned out exactly as I would expect from puff pastry and they were tasty. They aren't really what I would expect in a biscuit though(more of a tangy-salty cream puff dough), they were extremely small (bite size) and I too found them a little 'eggy'. I will be keeping this recipe for making bites and will stuff them with tapenade for the Holidays.

Budget Berry Jam

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2011
This is a geat recipe! My family of 8 goes through a jar of jam a sitting ....or almost, and it has become very expensive. The kids are not very picky when it comes to anything sweet so they really enjoyed the jam, not to say that it isn't good, because it is remarkeably tasty, but obviously it is what it is-not the real thing(can anything beat homemade raspberry/strawberry jam with chunks of fruit?). I did fool a lot of people who thought that it was authentic. I cut the sugar by LESS than half and it was still very sweet. I have tried this with every variety of gelatin and the berries are the best in my opinion. I sometimes throw in a hand of sliced real berries to give even more of an effect. I will be using this recipe again! Thanks!
