About this Cook
Hi, My name is Jean and I live on Long Island. My Son shares our home with me since my Husband passed. We both love to watch the cooking shows on Food Network and we have tried a few of the recipes. I love to bowl, I'm on a mixed league. Been bowling for about 45 years. I also love to sew, use to make all of my clothes and my childrens. Now I have gotten involved with Quilting. I love fabric, my Son says I could open my own store. I am now trying to use a lot of my fabric's for Soldiers Quilts and for Children who are in the hospital. I belong to the Brooklyn Guild that my Friend introduced me to about 6 years ago. I have made many friends and have learned a lot from these wonderful Quilters.
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook Italian food. I make my own Manicotti from scratch. My Aunt gave me a recipe many years ago, I have passed this recipe on to my Daughter and friends. I also like to cook Chinese food, the recipes I usually make has a lot of veggies and very little meat. I feel it's a very healthy way of cooking food. When I cook some of these dishes I usually try to put my own spin on them.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When the Holiday's come that's when I do a lot more baking. I'm usually asked to bring the Italian Bread and rolls. I've been making my own Bread and rolls for a lot of years. I'm also asked if I could please make a batch of cream puffs or an Apple Crostata. I love to make the Apple Crostata cause you don't have to worry about rolling out the crust to fit a pie plate. Just put it on a board with some flour and roll out to a circle, put the apples in and fold the dough over and around the edge and your done. Don't know if I explained it clearly, but it turns out great.
My cooking triumphs
I would say Apple Crostata, cream puffs and cheesecake are some of my dessert Triumphs. As I said before Manicoti is the fastest and the easiest main dish for me. Some of the sauces I like to make are Vodka and of course spaghetti with Turkey meatballs and Bolognese sauce. My Daughter introduced me into making them with Ground Turkey.
My cooking tragedies
I really can't say I've had to many cooking tragedies. I will say I have tried recipes that I've seen in magazines, looked so good but let me say not good to the taste. I will try recipes and will put my own spin on some of them, either different spices or extra ingredients to please my taste buds.

Best Peanut Butter Cookies Ever
I tried this recipe the other day and I was very happy with the outcome. I put the cookies in the cookie jar and 2 days later they were gone. I did add mini m&m's and I also used super crunchy peanut butter. The hunky peanut butter took it I thought to another level. This is a real keeper.

Basic Crepes
I thought the crepe had too much flour. It made them on the thick side where they should be on the thin side. I would put only 1/2 cup of flour.
