About this Cook
I'm 23 years old and a newlywed (married June 20, 2008!), and I'm loving it so far! I recently made some major changes as far as school and work, and now have a little more free time on my hands (I haven't had ANY for years). I've always cooked a little here and there, but not nearly as often as I do now!! I'm also trying to lose some weight, so I'm cooking more to avoid fast food, as well as trying to save some dough at the same time!
My favorite things to cook
I love to make desserts the best, but any dish with chicken is always good, too. I love trying new recipes, and I'm always tinkering with them to make them healthier. (i.e, substituting Fat free and/or sugar free varieties of whatever I can, trading in beef for turkey, etc.) I love my "Hungry Girl Cookbook"; for those of you trying to lose a few pounds but still want to eat yummy food, like me, GET THIS COOKBOOK! It's quite inexpensive (as low as $10 at Wal-Mart!) and has so many low fat/low cal recipes for everything from snacks to entrees to desserts and even cocktails. I sound like I work for them or something but I don't, I just *LOVE* LOVE *LOVE* their cookbook!

My mother and I have very different tastes, so.. I'm working on starting my own traditions!
My cooking triumphs
I was very proud of the first time I tried to make a full chinese meal. It included Egg Drop Soup, egg rolls and General Tsao's chicken (a restaurant favorite of both my husband and I). I cheated with the way I made it, but it still turned out amazingly and I was geeked!
My cooking tragedies
I made my first cheesecake from scratch and overcooked it. :( My oven is really goofy and usually cooks things way faster than the recipe calls for; and it's a tough game trying to decide if something is done or not. Since I'm always trying something new, it seems, that I often fail in this arena. I also just recently made "fudge" (a low-fat variation of fudge from my HG cookbook) that was very undercooked. One day, I WILL Figure my oven out! Or... buy a new one. =)
