Irish Bannock

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2013
I just pulled this out of the oven, and it's quite tasty. I love that the fact that it isn't overly sweet. I took the advice of the other reviewers and added in the full cup of buttermilk; but my dough wasn't sticky like other's were saying, so I went ahead and kneaded it. I used a mixture of raisins and golden raisins instead of currants, and I also added a teaspoon of ground cinnamon. I'm planning on baking another one and putting it in the freezer for later. This bread is so easy to make, and so delicious, that I plan on making it a regular thing.

Blood Orange Yogurt Olive Oil Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2013
This is wonderful! I guess some could say that it's more of a quick bread than an actual cake, but that doesn't change the fact that it tastes great! I did have to make a few changes (simply due to what ingredients I had on hand): I didn't have plain Greek yogurt, but vanilla flavored, so I used that mixed with a little bit of sour cream. I also didn't have agave nectar, so I used honey, and only a 1/3 of a cup of it due to the fact that the yogurt I used had added sugar in it. Other than that, I did everything as written. It's a dense, moist, tangy, and flavorful way to use up some blood oranges. The only little issue that I had is that when I added the "blood orange syrup" to the warm cake, it fell in. Not a huge deal, but it might be better to let it cool quite a bit before pouring it on.

Guinness® Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2015
Used Extra Stout Guinness. This bread was wonderful. It was super easy to make too. Like other reviewers, I did not have to bake the bread for the amount of time listed on the recipe (I think I ended up baking it for 45-50 minutes). I will be making this again.

Glazed Pumpkin Donuts

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2015
Amazing! Doughnuts are moist and flavorful. I used my own blend of spices since I don't have any pumpkin pie spice. I also loved how easy this was. I don't have a doughnut pan, so I did as another reviewer suggested and cut the corner out of a ziploc and piped the doughnuts onto the baking sheet. One thing to mention, these are a very soft doughnut, so it can be difficult to judge when they are done. I baked mine for about 15 minutes. The glaze is wonderful as well; with just the right amount for this batch of doughnuts--and I love that! I hate when you end up with tons of extra glaze and not enough product to put it on---but this was not the case with this recipe! Overall, I cannot wait to make again. Thanks so much for sharing, RainbowJewels!

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2013
I have made this recipe many, many times; and it's pretty great as written. With that being said (and with how many times I've made it), I've modified it to fit my family's taste. The last batch I made, I used 2 1/2 cups old fashioned oats, 1/2 cup flour, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ground ginger, 1 cup of raisins, 1/3 cup honey, 1 egg beaten, 2 tsps vanilla, and then I mashed 1 medium banana into a half-cup measure and then topped off the remaining space in the half-cup measure with vegetable oil (not an exact measurement, but it reduces the amount of fat in the recipe). I followed the same instructions, mixing the dry ingredients, and then adding in the wet ingredients. Mine usually require the full 30 minutes. I have also made it using molasses in place of the honey; have tried it with both all purpose and wheat flours; and it always turns out good..So my rating is based on the original recipe AND the fact that it so easily adapted to your tastes, dietary needs, and/or simply what ingredients you have on hand....Oh, and I almost never have wheat germ in my pantry, so I haven't made it with that, but it still turns out great.

Dominican Style Oatmeal

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2012
I've never really been a huge fan of oatmeal, I always thought it to taste kind of bland. Nevertheless, I decided to give this recipe a try, and I think I may become an oatmeal lover! I love the simplicity (as I pretty much always have these ingredients on hand) as well as the versatility. I made mine with a little less sugar, and sliced up a slightly ripened banana, and it was absolutely fantastic. It's quick, simple, nutritious, and tastes great. What more could you ask for?

Chocolate Beer Cupcakes With Whiskey Filling And Irish Cream Icing

I actually made this into a two layer cake instead of cupcakes and it was delicious. I filled the layers with cream cheese frosting and then covered the cake in ganache. Wonderful recipe, thank you for sharing.

Coffee Mug Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2015
This was so easy and tasted pretty good. I made it without the topping. I actually liked the dense and moist consistency of the cake due to being microwaved. I was looking for a super quick pastry recipe to use when my fruit salad turned juicier than I wanted it to (so I used it as a topping), and it was perfect topped with the berries. If I were to just eat this cake by itself, I would add a little more vanilla next time. I doubled the recipe and made it in a bowl; it worked great. Thank you, Adastra808.

Strawberry Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2013
I really enjoyed this smoothie. I did what the others suggested and placed the oatmeal in the food processor first, and pulsed until it was finely ground. I also used frozen mixed berries, regular milk, and added in a half-tablespoon of peanut butter. I didn't add sugar (I don't add sweetener to my smoothies, just a personal preference). Very creamy and filling. Will be making again.
