My Best Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2013
Nice recipe...per other reviewers, needs all FIVE cans of clams....get 2 minced, and 3 chopped cans clams. Buy small clam juice to use instead of water. Used 1/2 and 1/2 and also small amt heavy cream. Thickened with cornstarch (1/3 cup) and water instead of flour. Perfect consistency. Hubby had a huge bowl to eat and we had 2 large Tupperware containers of leftovers. Only takes about 30 mins to make, great for weeknight dinner.

Southern Candied Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2012
The recipe was OK. My sauce didn't candy, so I had to add a bit of cornstarch at the end. But by that time, they were so soft, that they mushed a bit when I tried stirring in the cornstarch. I cut sugar to 1/2 cup brown and 1/2 cup white. The nutmeg was overpowering even though I used less and I suggest omitting it completely. I will be trying another recipe next time.

Ranch Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2012
Good tasting...but perhaps next time I'll use 1/2-3/4 packet of ranch, it was quite salty even when I added more yogurt and mayo. I'd recommend tasting it first at 1/2 packet and slowly adding more in.

Vegetarian Cassoulet

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2012
One of the most disappointing recipes I've tried on here, and I've tried hundreds! I tried to look over as many reviews as possible to get suggestions on how to make this recipe great. Even when I added more seasoning, garlic, and barley, it still turned out unappealing in terms of appearance. It seems to be missing a few somethings, and I think it could have potential with some tweaks.

Three-Berry Lemon Trifle

Reviewed: May 29, 2012
Very easy and yummy! Took about half hour total to make....chose to use vanilla yogurt instead with the 1/3 cup lemon juice, made just the right amt of lemony taste. Sugar free cool whip. Used strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries for garnish. Refridgerated for about 5 hours before serving, perfect! Make this!!

Long Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2012
Was just ok. Soup was a little greasy from the frying of the cabbage and onion. Tasted alright but won't make again.

Cake Balls

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2012
Excellent--but I used chocolate chips melted with some shortening instead of the confectioners coating--never like the waxy taste of those or the store bought wafers, ick. These turned out wonderfully. Important to let the balls freeze for about 40 mins to allow for easier dipping.

Grandma Daly's Tuna and Tater Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2012
Very good! Followed as is and was tasty. Needed more seasoning, added extra garlic, etc. Pretty time consuming though, and a big mess was made because of seperate pans, pots, etc. Would recommend. ***Does not keep well....mushy and gross a day or two later.....eat leftovers quick!

Shrimp Linguine Alfredo

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2012
Very very good! Sauteed shrimp seperately with butter and garlic, since I"m vegetarian and hubby is not. Used 1 cup heavy cream and about 1/2 cup of half n half. Needed about 1T cornstarch to thicken. Added about 4 cloves of minced garlic to sauce with the diced onion. Easy, quick, and very good! Would recommend!

Vegetarian Chickpea Sandwich Filling

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2012
Excellent! Double recipe, doesn't make much as is. Used chopped matchstick carrots for added color, as well as half green onion/regular onion. Mash beans slightly--no need to make it a paste! Slightly mashed gives it wonderful texture! Served on toasted wheat bread with some dijon mustard and lettuce! Yum-O!

Ultimate Baked Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2012
The only recipe for baked beans I ever use! I make it vegetarian by omitting the bacon. Bake for about 50 mins and it's perfect.

Sarge's EZ Pulled Pork BBQ

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2011
This is the only pork recipe I use! Skip the coffee, don't need it....seasoned with S&P, garlic and onion powder. Used 1/2 pkg of Lipton onion soup mix. Take out after 6 hours and ladle out most of the broth. The broth plus BBQ sauce will make it too watery. Break apart meat and add Sweet Baby Ray's honey BBQ sauce (I use no other! It's the best!) and let it cook for another hour.

Simple Baked Apples

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2011
Easy to do! KEEP SKINS ON FOR COLOR! I baked Rome apples at 375 for 20 mins covered with foil, then 350 for 20 mins, uncovered. Left out cloves. Used only 1/4 cup of Splenda, made it sweet enough. Came out perfect and pretty!

Vegetarian Cabbage Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2011
VERY timely, as I suppose all cabbage rolls are. Did not care for the tofu mixture. I am vegetarian and maybe I picked the wrong brand of tofu? It just did not taste like a "real" cabbage roll. Would not make again.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2011
I'm vegetarian, but my husband gives this 5 stars! Super easy and super yummy! Total cook time was about 6.5 hours. You only need ONE pkg of biscuits, I used Pillbury Grands with great results. Just tear them up into bite-size pieces with your hands and make sure to add them about an hour before everything is done, a half hour isn't enough. Added one small box of frozen mixed veggies. Smells amazing cooking all day!

Italian Veggie Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
Used wheat ;asagna noodles, they all fell apart. Use regular lasagna noodles!! Used matchstick carrots, onion, zucchini. Took long time to make, but yum. Skip the broth (wine) step, it's not needed. Just saute veggies and add to egg mix. Too timely for a weeknight.
