About this Cook
I love baking, baseball, and Bach :)
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook meals and desserts for others, especially family. Hearty, home-made, comfort foods and tempting desserts are my favorites!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My great-grandmother made some incredible cinnamon rolls, and no matter how hard we try ours just can't compare. My grandmothers always made everything from scratch. My mom has always been encouraging and experimental in the kitchen so I always felt free to try new things. Growing up, we'd make Sunday breakfast together after church - I made eggs, my brother the pancakes, and my parents the bacon. At Thanksgiving, my grandpa always gave me a hard time about peeling potatoes (there'll be nothing left if you keep doing it like that!), and my grandma always made the gravy from pan drippings. She's teaching me now but it sure is a craft, and I'm still working on it. My husband is also a great cook and has a wonderful knack for combining flavors. My family spends a lot of time together in the kitchen.

Black Magic Cake
Seriously the best cake I have ever made. Delicious, rich chocolate flavor, perfect for birthdays, holidays, any occasion! I use a chocolate fudge buttercream or a simple store-bought cream cheese frosting - yum! Thanks!

Iced Pumpkin Cookies
I have made these numerous times since I came across the recipe a couple of years ago. They are a huge hit with family and friends. I add orange extract to the glaze for a little extra sweetness. Delicious!

Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup
This is the best soup I have ever made! I did give 4 stars because I always add onions, carrots, and corn (and sometimes celery and peas) - I just think it needs veggies! The first time I made it, I followed the recipe exactly and it was wonderful. Since then, I have used 1/2 & 1/2 or 1% instead of the heavy cream, heavily seasoned my chicken before adding it (paprika, s&p, lemon pepper, etc) and use 2 boxes of the rice. Wonderful recipe, and there are so many things you can add to make it fit to your taste perfectly. Thank you!
