October is such a fun month. In upstate New York it can bring just about anything weather-wise. This year was no exception with fabulous foliage, warm beautiful sunny days and, just in time for a Halloween trick, Hurricane Sandy. Sandy sounds so fun and innocuous but for many she was terrifying and continues to wreak havoc. Luckily for my area, the anxiety caused by the dire predictions was by far the worst part.

We celebrated Emily's seventh birthday, Hailie lost her sixth tooth and we finished the month with Halloween. Sandy, they said you'd bring a whirlwind but the whirlwind of family fun and activities started before your visit and ended after you departed. October was sweet, crunchy, savory and memorable in many ways. We cooked up a storm but Sandy, thank goodness, we hardly knew you.

Ah, the crunch of fallen leaves and great food but better than that is how important you are to those two little girls and the memories you are making.

God Love ya Janet!! Oct. has been a Bad month for my family, we lost Both my In Laws within 2 weeks of each other, so we have been in an emotional storm for sure! I feel so helpless for the East coast. Obviously, watching from Calif., is all I can do. So happy you and family are safe n sound!Love your photos. All those pics and not 1 Naked picture! Good job:) LOL. I Wish the other 1/2 of my family liked fruit pies, but CJ and I cant eat a whole pie by ourselves. My oldest will Literally eat anything. November will be Better! Take care:)Thanks for sharing Janet:):)

Janet I've enjoyed all your wonderful Halloween food fotos, so much fun to make great food to share with our family and friends. Storms will come and go, but they won't destroy our memories, they stay in our hearts forever.

About Me
A few years ago I had the opportunity to go to culinary school and loved every minute of it. So after nearly 20 years working as a paralegal, I took the plunge and changed careers. I was the baker at a "corporate dining" facility feeding the construction workers who are building a microchip manufacturing plant. I earned much less but I loved every minute of it - even though those minutes started at 5 AM! Now I am back to work as a paralegal albeit only part-time but I have also taken custody of two little angels who were in a violent and abusive home. I also volunteer by cooking at a small local hospice. I wish I could foster a new career for myself and others as a "Food Therapist". My efforts will not cure these people but I have found that I can provide enjoyment and the boost that a meal can bring. At the same time, the enjoyment I get is at least equal to their enjoyment of my efforts.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook anything but baking is my passion.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday meals with ALL the extras. Too much food for anyone to eat everything. I can't wait to pass the holiday traditions on to my granddaughters who are already Grandma's best helpers!
My cooking triumphs
I love the fact that even though our mother was a good cook and my five sisters are all good cooks, everytime I bring somethng new to family get-togethers, I am always asked to bring it again!
My cooking tragedies
My mother did a lot of cooking without recipes so I thought that's just what you did. One time when I was about 12, I was home alone and decided to make a pie. The crust was really not edible. Decades later, I still remember that pie!
