Chickpea and Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2014
Ad written, this soup is edible but BORING!!! But, it is a FABULOUS base recipe... so much potential in this soup! I like to use chicken stock (or chicken broth) instead of water, add shredded/roasted chicken or even kielbasa, add different beans, some more seasonings (especially garlic.) And, I do cook this in the crock on low (stirring occasionally) for at least 6-8 hrs to get a full blending of flavors. Worth 'playing' with this recipe to get the flavors you want!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2014
SUPER easy, SUPER yummy, NO FAIL recipe!!! Perfect rolls... and, with a family full of people that can't have ANY dairy, this is AWESOME!!!!!! Works with wheat flour, white flour, or a combo of the two... I usually do 1/2 wheat and 1/2 white. (Although, depending on the humidity of the day, you may need to adjust the flour amounts. I have used from 4-7 cups flour depending.) THANK YOU!!!!!!

Dilly Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2014
Hands down my fave bread!!! I always have it on hand, make it at least once a week because it's the only bread we make sandwiches on! I don't bake in a round roll, I actually make 2 loafs out of this recipe. I also don't add the salt to the top of the bread after it's cooked.... it's just too much salt for my taste. I DO add 2tsp (or more) of DILL WEED in addition to the dill seed (but, my family REALLY likes the dill flavor... LOL!) I also use about 1 TBSP of the dried onion flakes.

Michele's Ground Beef Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2014
Ok base recipe... easy to jazz it up and easy to make. But, I only gave it 4 stars because it does take a LOT of jazzing... I added more seasonings (according to family's tastes), added shredded cheese (swiss is really good on this!). One time, I even added sauerkraut to the recipe and it turned out like a bierock (cabbage roll) casserole. Again, super easy to change up so very worth keeping in the recipe box!

Sweet and Sour Meatballs in Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2014
I gave this a 5 star because it is a fabulous BASE recipe that can easily be changed to suit your family's taste buds! All of my family enjoys this, even the toddler who normally won't eat ANYTHING with a sauce on it!! First time, made as written... it was good, but was missing something. Second time, I used my meatball recipe, cut sauce in 1/2 and added 1/2 tsp rice vinegar and 1/2 tsp lemon juice to the sauce... MUCH better and with this I realized it was versatile. Last night, I used the sauce recipe with stir fry veggies/ chicken and served over rice... FABULOUS!! Add soy sauce (to taste) and it makes a very light terriyaki sauce. Thank you SOOOOOOO much!!!

Calico Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2010
The absolute easiest base recipe. I have cooked as written (which is great, although a bit sweet for our taste) and also changed everything from the amounts, the type of meat, how its cooked and the kind of beans and I've always had it turn out great. (Always use baked beans, though.) Some suggestions for alternates: use shredded roast in place of hamburger, use full cup of brwn sugar but exchange tomato sauce for ketchup, use sausage and 1 lb bacon. You really can change this recipe to totally suit your family's taste or to make it a sidedish instead of the main dish. Also, it freezes well: put leftovers in ziplock baggie to freeze- pop in microwave or heat on stovetop for quick meal. THANK YOU!!!!!

Great recipe...altered it a little to suit our tastes, but it was VERY easy to do so and still turned out WONDERFUL!!!! I've used the sauce part of the recipe with other things like bbq roast beef, bbq chicken, etc...never fails to elicit great rounds of compliments! Thanks for a wonderful recipe.

Southern Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2008
Good basic recipe- easy to change to suit your family's taste buds! I use 16oz of cottage cheese and double the amount of cheddar. I also use a dash of garlic salt, a bit of onion salt, some parsley and regular ground pepper for flavor. This is also good if you add fresh green onions and celery. If you want it as a meal, add some chopped up ham or johnsonville brats!!! My family loves it EVERY time I make it...never the same way twice.

These biscuits taste like your normal biscuit but they are SOOOO light and flaky! My family loves them. I've served them stew, sausage gravy and as a side for several other meals.
