About this Cook
I'm a working mom to an active almost-3 year old, and with a husband that works 10 hour days, most of the cooking falls to me. While I love to have a hot dinner on the table every night, even my schedule makes that tricky!
My favorite things to cook
I love to do tasty, quick dinners and decadent, but not so awfully fat-filled desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Right now my toddler is in her 'helper' phase, so every time I'm in the kitchen it is a family affair. We did Christmas cookies together this year for the first time, and she's learning her way around our kitchen quite well. Maybe I can retire early from dinner detail!
My cooking triumphs
Getting everything to the table at the same time for a big family dinner or party... and I make a particularly good diet banana pudding. It's a keeper!
My cooking tragedies
I made Beef Bourgignon from scratch, and of course this requires an entire bottle of red wine. Well, I didn't have burgundy wine, but the recipe said you could use a Beaujolais, which I had. The Beaujolais made the entire stew PURPLE. Not a lovely dark red like a burgundy would have... so we ate PURPLE stew. It was not a repeat recipe...

Tater Tot Casserole III
Made exactly as specified, except I substituted ground venison hamburger. It was delicious and masked the sometimes gamey taste of the deer. Delicious! There's a second one in the freezer for future meals!

Ziti Chicken and Broccoli
I thought this was delicious! I had to make a few changes due to not having a few things on hand. Instead of broth and bouillon, I used 2 cubes bouillon and 10 oz of water. Mixed the sauce in the same pan the chicken cooked in to take advantage of bread crumb droppings and seasonings. Also used 8 oz heavy cream +8 oz milk. Added extra cheese, and used less broccoli (mostly due to my family's taste). Thickened with flour instead of cornstarch. Overall, a filling, delicious recipe that was excellent as leftovers. Also, did not mix in the chunks of breaded chicken - just sliced and served atop the noodle mixture. Didn't want soggy breading in the reheat.

Danish Pastry
What a fantastic recipe. Exactly what I was looking for. My only mistake was not sandwiching my butter sheets between two separate sheets of wax paper. I made a tower of wax/butter/wax/butter/wax. Needless to say, it was nearly impossible to peel easily. Still won and got the butter off, but not in one solid plank. Now I know for next time!
