Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2011
Very tasty! I used a ready-made graham cracker crust and added another 8 oz cream cheese to make the bottom layer thicker. I also used 3/4 cup sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, 3 eggs and pumpkin pie filling instead of puree and spices (I couldn't find puree or even pie pumpkins at the store). I also put a rectangular glass baking dish filled 3/4 with water on a rack just below the pie (carefully, in an electric oven). I know cheescakes are normally done in a "water bath" but nobody explained the process to me so I went with my own "humidifer" and it worked just fine...no cracks at all. It wasn't quite done at 35-40 minutes, it was more like 45 minutes.

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2010
Perfect if you have a sweet tooth. The texture and flavor are awesome but I found them a bit too sweet. They bake perfectly and give you a nice moist bread texture given you use the correct size pans (7" X 3").

Rich and Simple French Onion Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
I made this the first time, following the recipe exactly (except I didn't have the Sherry) and the only major complaint that I have was the amount of oil/fat. I took a couple of thin napkins to try to soak some of it up from the top of the soup before I added the bread & cheese but it still tasted very "greasy". It was very tasty. Next time I'll try less butter and Swiss cheese since most highly-rated recipes are calling for Swiss. Very good otherwise.

Turtle Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2008
Fantastic! I didn't blend the melted chocolate completely with the batter, just swirled it in for a marbled look. It came out perfect! Now I don't have to pay an arm & a leg at the cheesecake factory!!!

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2008
Very good...better than "from the box" brownies. I was running very low on vanilla so I substituted 1 tsp. Kahlua for the brownie mix portion. They turned out great! The frosting was a little difficult and took quite a while to blend enough to get to a frosting consistency. I heated it a little to help it get softer and easier to work with. Next time I'll try adding nuts and chocolate chips.

Bread and Celery Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
Good, easy, basic and inexpensive to make. The stuffing in the turkey came out quite wet when I just air dried the bread on one try. TIP: I "dried" the bread in the oven on four cookie sheets at 325*. It was faster than waiting 1-2 hours for them to air dry and the stuffing wasn't soggy when the bird was done.

Cranberry Sauce I

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
Very good! Even my mother-in-law agreed that it was better than the same recipe that she uses (with water instead of O.J.) My father-in-law really liked it as well. I normally don't like cranberries because of their tartness. I decided to make this recipe because I thought the O.J. would make it sweeter and tone down the tartness of the cranberries. It did and I was able to enjoy them!

Easy Turkey Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
I was disappointed. It did not look or taste like gravy but more like soup. It also didn't thicken very much. Sorry but I won't be making this again.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2008
Followed everything but substituted 1/3 cub safflower oil for butter with the wet ingredients. They came out with a dry, hard crusted top and I could taste the baking powder. It definitely could use nuts and was very plain without them. I followed other advice and sprinkled the topping after they already started baking but a lot of the mixture was still dry when they were finally done. I filled cupcake paper baking cups (batter was enough for 10) about 3/4 full. The muffins rose about an inch so they did look like cupcakes instead of muffins.

Meatiest Vegetarian Chili From Your Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
You will need a LARGE crock pot for this recipe as it is written. A regular size crock will be too small. The amount of onions & peppers was almost overwhelming for the skillet so it took quite a while for them to cook. The overall taste (compared to chili with beef) is only slightly similar but I think the cumin was overpowering. the texture was good. The chips, guacamole and sour cream are a good addition so there is something accompanying the chili. Overall in my opinion, this recipe was average.

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
This was an excellent recipe. We have a ceramic (glass) cooktop stove and I'm not much of a cook but this recipe turned out great. I already had Holland brand white cooking wine (the kind that they sell in the grocery stores) so I used that. The cream sauce at the end was so good and there was enough left over that I poured it on the rice that I made with this meal. It was delicious! Thanks for a great recipe.

Italian Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2008
These were very good...a different twist on the typical grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup. We had to double the amount of butter in order to cover both sides of the sandwiches (we melted the butter).

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2008
Very good recipe! The flavor of the parmesan & lemon stood out and are a great combination for this type of fish. The texture was nice too. We served this with the All Recipes Grilled Soy-Sesame Asparagus and garlic rice pilaf. I tried this recipe twice using fresh lemon juice the first time and bottled lemon juice the second time. It definitely tasted better with the fresh lemon juice. FYI.

Sesame Noodles

The rice vinegar was overpowering...not only in the taste but also the smell throughout the house as it was cooking. I will try this recipe again without it.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2008
I used the auto calculator to double this recipe to serve 12 and followed it exactly using the 12-hr. on low heat option. I like my stew juices gravy-like but this came out watery like soup. The liquid didn't even cover the meat & veges on top and lead them to become a little dry. I also didn't like the flavor...it didn't taste like stew. Perhaps doubling the recipe was the problem but I wasted quite a bit of time and money on this recipe that got flushed. Will try another one.
