I really enjoy cooking although I don't feel I'm quite that good at it yet. I have certain things I'm good at and I have select recipes that I can make like nobody else, but I have a ways to go. Growing up my family's variety of dinner food, while very good, was also very limited. Mainly consistng of a fried meat, gravy, beans, potatoes, and occasionally a vegetable. It was a very southern and budget friendly way of cooking for a family. Now that I am cooking for myself, however, I am really excited about making all kinds of different recipes with different foods and styles. I no longer have to cater to the tastes of others, and there isn't a food, sauce, fruit,or vegetable around that I don't like. Most of all I LOVE eating.
My favorite things to cook
I think I like making sauces most of all. The right sauce not only accents any good dish, but can also be the only thing holding it together.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Creative cooking with my dad. I remember late nights when I lived with him, and we would be awake making cheesecake with cookies and cream ice cream in the batter with chips ahoy crumbled on top. Or once when we were so broke he took the last two apples in the fridge, a can of store bought .69 biscuits, a little butter, ground cinnamon, and honey, and made the best little apple dumpling I've had to this day! And I still make his powdered sugar and cinnamon biscuit doughnuts. He's always been very good with desserts.
