Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2014
I took parts of the initial recipe and other reviewers suggestions. Here is what I ended up doing: 1 1/2 cups rice crispy cereal, 2 cups oats, 1 cup raisins, 1/3 cup packed brown sugar, 1/2 cup honey, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/4 cup sliced almonds, 1/4 cup chopped pecans , 1/4 cup wheat germ, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 2 eggs (used egg whites), 1 cup applesauce, 1/4 tsp allspice, 1/2 cup whole wheat flour, 1/2 cup all-purpose flour. I also sprinkled some more almonds onto the top and gently pushed them in the "dough". Cooked in my convection oven at 350 for 23 minutes. They're very chewy on the inside and so yummy. My son who hates raisins and nuts just ate 3 bars!

The Best Ever Classic Jewish Noodle Kugel

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2014
In my opinion, a 1 lb bag of noodles wasn't enough for a 9x13 pan, so I added made an additional 1/2 bag. I also added an additional 5 tbsp of butter, 3 eggs and extra applesauce, sugar, cinnamon, etc. It still came out a little dry but not horrible. It tasted pretty good though!

Quick and Super Easy Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2013
My hubby requested chicken and dumplings, which is something I have never made nor ate before. I found this recipe and took the plunge. I boiled 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts in water/chicken broth. Once those were done I shredded them, seasoned generously with garlic powder, Lawry's, garlic salt and pepper and put them aside. In the pot, I left the water/chicken stock that was already there and added a bit more broth. When the broth came to a boil I added 1/2 bullion cube and the chicken. I also used the Bisquick mix for the dumplings. It came out SO good that my kids (6.5 and 3.5) gobbed it up and the hubs said it was better than his mom's :) Definitely a keeper!

Slow Cooker, Easy Baked Potato Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2013
This is very yummy! We don't like any sort of onions or minced garlic. So I used a tsp of garlic powder. I also put all the dry ingredients into a gallon ziploc bag with the cubed potatoes and shake it like crazy, coating every potato piece before I put it all into the crockpot. I also left out the parsley.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2012
Like others have said, VERY sticky and not good for cutouts! I kept the dough in the fridge wrapped in Saran Wrap for 2 hours before taking a little out to trial. The cookie puffed up so much you can't even tell what it's supposed to be! The taste is Pretty good though. I took others advice to add an extra tsp of vanilla and cup of sugar. I was going to use this for my daughters Girl Scout troop to cutout holiday cookies but I'll probably have to make them ahead of time and just let them decorate them.

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2012
With the suggestions from other bakers it made one incredible pie! I added 1 tsp of cinnamon, 1/2 tsp of nutmeg, 1 tbsp of vanilla (minus 1 tbsp of water) , substituted 1 tsbp of flour for cornstatch and 6 red delicious apples. Definitely cut the lattice ahead of time and chill in fridge or freezer while you make the rest. I also soaked all the apples in the mixture before pouring into the crust then made another 1/2 batch of the mixture for the topping. When the pie had 20 min left, I then poured it over the top for a nice Carmelized lattice. I cooked it for 50 min at 350. This pie was a huge hit!!!

Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2012
SOOOO good! I cooked 4.5 defrosted bonesless skinless chicken breasts, used 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 tbsp worchestchire, 1/2 cup Kraft Zesty Italian dressing and 20 oz of Sweet Baby Rays. I Put half the sauce mixture in, cooked 3 hrs on high in my crock pot, pulled the meat apart, added the other half of the sauce and let it soak in the sauce for another 30 min with the crock pot off. It was quite saucy but we like it that way. Even my picky 2 yr old gobbled it up!

Cheddar Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2011
SOOO yummy!! I took the advice of others: skipped the butter (used butter cooking spray instead), added 1 tsp of Italian seasoning, used plain bread crumbs, cooked at 350 for 45 min, and broiled for about 5 min after.

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2011
I took others recommendations and added less milk (ended up using only 1/2 a cup to keep the sauce thick), 1 cup of Parmesan, and 1/4 tsp nutmeg. The sauce was way too garlicky. I didn't taste the cream cheese at all. It just tasted like a garlic cream sauce. I may try it again with much less garlic and more Parmesan.

Best Ever Brisket

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2011
I have made this multiple times. My family loves it but my daughter sometimes complains it's too spicy. So this last time I made a few changes. I had a 7.8 lbs brisket, so I doubled the chili power, onion powder, garlic powder, white sugar and season salt (Lawry's). I left out the salt and only used 1 tsp of black pepper plus added 2 tsp of brown sugar. And doubled the beef broth. It came out even better than the original recipe and it was less spicy.

Marinated Baked Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2011
Great marinade but I made a few changes. I let the chops marinade for 10 hrs and then cooked at 375 for 45 min covered. Like others suggested, I broiled them for about 5 minutes at the end. I actually had 3 thick boneless chops so I made about triple the amount of sauce, but actually only tripled a few of the ingredients. I kept the ketchup at 2 tbsp, used 3 tbsp of Teriyaki, 1 tsp of oil, 6 tbsp of brown sugar, 2 tbsp of Worcestershire and 2 tbsp of lemon juice. YUMMM!

Decent taste....not too sweet not too blah. I took others suggestions and did half shortening, half butter with extra milk. It is a very dense cornbread type consistency.

Famous Butter Chicken

It was a really good recipe. I added a few things (paprika and parmesean cheese both in the mix and on top) and used only 1/4 cup of butter.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2011
I changed the recipe around a bit. Instead of peppers and onions (we don't like either), I added 1/2 tsp of onion powder. I also left out the mustard. I used the 3/4 cup of ketchup, but also added 1/4 cup of BBQ sauce. I only used 2 tsp of brown sugar since the BBQ sweetens the meat already. I always brown the meat and add everything to the crock pot to slow cook for an hour or 2. I also add 1/4 cup of water to keep everything moist.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2011
These really are as good as everyone has said! I followed the directions but omitted salt (personal preference), used pecans and milk chocolate chips. I also put the dough in the fridge for an hour. The dough was still falling apart so I had to hand roll into balls before putting on the cookie sheets. Came out delish!

Almond Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2008
I am a beginner when it comes to cooking and this was really easy to make! I did substitute orange marmalade for apricot preserves, and I left out the red pepper. I also doubled the preserves to take away the mustard taste. It came out perfect! I will definitely make this again. Thanks!!
