These cookies turned out really flat. The only thing I changed was I used plain shortening instead of the butter flavor only because that is what I happened to have on hand. I will never make these again.

We used to only find these at the Bon Marche (now Macy's) in Seattle. I came looking for this recipe when I got married 6 years ago. They were such a big hit, and tasted exactly the way I had remembered them, that I started making these for Christmas time too. The only change I have made over the years, is slight. I like to add a little spice of some kind. So far pumpkin pie spice is a winner in my house, however ginger and cinnamon work well to. Just add to your personal taste.

I made this with barley flour instead regular flour due to allergies. It turned out great. I think that next time I will make my own fresh raspberry filling.

This is kinda the same thing I make. I use a mixture of italian sausage and ground turkey instead of the ground beef. I also like to use fresh herbs instead of dried.

Something doesn't seem quite right. This dough is very very sticky. I had to add about 2 more cups of flour to stiffen it up enough to form into balls. Otherwise I would have had to POUR into muffin tins to hope to get rolls. I know how to cook and bake, so I doubt I made a mistake in measuring. Working on the first rise now. I will update again when I have the finished product.

Save the liquid that comes off the butter! Use it to make buttermilk pancakes or biscuits to go with your fresh butter. Delicious!

I can only give this 4 stars so far. My dough is currently going through it's first rise. I am only making a half recipe, as 3 loaves is more than my family needs right now. I'm just making this for fun. I did note that the flour wasn't enough. I had about 1 cup extra. This might be because of the weather, it's cloudy and has been raining off and on all day. Also, I used a Kitchen Aid mixer to mix and do most of the kneading. I will be making homemade butter to go with this. But aside from needing extra flour, this seems like a really good recipe to have on hand. I can't wait to see the finished product.

I work in an adult family home. I care for seniors and am always looking for easy recipes that can bee made ahead and cooked later when needed. I made this for breakfast for something different. My clients loved it. My three ladies commented that this cake reminded them of happy times when they were younger cooking for church functions. I didn't have buttermilk so I did a mixture of milk and sour cream and made a double batch of the topping. They have requested that I make these into muffins and freeze them so my co workers who don't bake have something tasty to serve instead of toast. this is a keeper. Thanks!
