Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2013
This was great! Made exactly as recipe states and it turned out wonderful - and no, I did Not cover the chicken. It was very moist, juicy and flavorful. I made it a second time just today but used brown sugar instead of white and added a half cup of sliced green onions. I also marinated the chicken over night in a watered down version of the sauce and then used the regular strength sauce the last 30 minutes of baking, basting every ten minutes. Wow! Nothing at all wrong with the original but I really liked this recipe when I marinated the meat over night!

Made these wonderful cookies exactly as recipe states - my family loves them. They were soft, chewy and the cloves add just the right touch of spice. Thanks Beth!

Incredibly Delicious Italian Cream Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2013
I'll start by saying, I've never eaten Italian Cream Cake, so I have no clue as to whether this is "authentic" as some of the reviewers are debating - however - I do make a lot of baked goods and I know if something is tasty or not. This IS tasty. I also dislike when people change recipes and then complain about them. Having said that I have to admit, I had to change a couple of things because of ingredient snafoos. One of my Five eggs had a bloody yolk when I cracked it open so I only had 4 left to use. I replaced the liquid from the 1 missing egg with a 1/4 cup of coconut milk that I did happen to have on hand. I also ran out of white sugar (I KNOw, it's been one of those days)so I had to use 1 and 1/2 cup of white and 1/2 cup of brown sugar. I baked it in two nine inch layers and they were done at just 20 minutes. Even with my ingredient problems the cake was moist and good. I'm giving it 5 stars just for being so adaptable. I'm still a chocolate lover so this will never be a favorite for me but it was moist and flavorful - even better the next day.

Mandarin Orange Cake I

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2012
This is a good basic "I'm in a hurry, need a dessert" type of recipe. It has nice texture and the taste is good. When I made this exactly as the recipe stated I felt the cake was something I would be pleased to share with guests but nothing memorable. I then made the cake, trying for a richer, less artificial taste. I drained the oranges and replaced that cup of liquid with orange juice, used a duncan hines orange cake mix, used 1/2 cup oil and 1/2 cup melted butter and mixed in a 1/2 cup of sour cream. For the topping, I mixed the pineapple with the pudding mix and set aside. Creamed 8 oz. of cream cheese with 1/2 cup of sugar until smooth, added 1 cup of heavy whipping cream and beat until stiff peaks formed. Folded the pudding and cream cheese mixture together and frosted the cake. I was much happier with the flavor, texture and even the presentation of the cake. Thanks for a good basic recipe that I could be creative with.

Peanut Butter Haystacks

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2011
Love these! Very simple to make. I make one batch following this recipe and then make a second batch leaving out the peanut butter and adding 1 cup choc. chips to the butterscotch. This makes more coating than the original recipe so I bump up the peanuts to 2 cups along with the 2 cups of chow mein noodles. Very easy and versatile recipe. Thanks!

Sturdy Whipped Cream Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2011
This is the most terriffic frosting! I bake cakes for a local restaurant and use this on my banana cakes. It holds up beautifully and stays fresh tasting for 3 or 4 days when kept in the cooler. (The cakes don't last any longer than that so this frosting may hold up even longer - who knows) It is an excellent choice for people who don't like really sweet frostings. I make it just as the recipe states and it turns out perfect every time.

Cream Cheese Squares

Made exactly as recipe states except put a layer of fresh sweet blueberries on top of the cream cheese layer. Topped the berries with the remaining dough and followed the rest of the directions. SOoooooo good! My family loves this. I'm making one with fresh raspberries even as we speak...

No Bake Chocolate Oat Bars

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
These bars taste terriffic - however - I made this recipe 3 times and couldn't keep the oatmeal mixture from crumbling and falling apart. I believe I've followed the instructions to the letter - Can anyone help - what am I doing wrong? I'd love to make these again because they taste so good but I don't want to have to serve them with a fork...

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak

Made just as recipe stated - put peppers in at beginning but then put in another handful of thin slices about 45 minutes before serving. Served over seasoned brown rice and my family ate every last bit. Great recipe that I'll make again.

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
Awesome! Doubled ingredients for the sauce and was so glad I did - my guests just loved it. Made sauce with half and half because it's what I had and only used half the butter and added 2 tablespoons of canola oil because my husbands gallbladder is sensitive to animal fats. It still tasted wonderful. I know NOTHING about cooking with wine so I just picked up a $10. 00 bottle of pino grigio. It worked great - once I figured out how to get the cork out of the bottle :) Ha!Thanks for the terriffic recipe.

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2011
I would have given this recipe 10 stars if the software allowed it. The only thing I added to the recipe was 2 cloves of fresh minced garlic - not because this recipe lacks anything but just because we love garlic in our household. Thanks for the great recipe - Oh! and I also used Guiness as my beer of choice in cooking this great sandwich.

Famous Coconut-Almond Balls

Taste just like the real thing (Almond Joys)! Rolling the balls of coconut was sticky/icky but it didn't take long and the end results were very good. I made mine in small foil candy cup liners and they look terriffic. Thanks for the recipe Saundra.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2010
Made this the first time exactly as the recipe states - it was really good. Next time I added a layer of coarsly chopped onion on the bottom of the crockpot, put the roast in, salted it with Lawry's Season Salt and minced garlic, poured the rootbeer around it and let it cook for 10 hours on low. It was so good we didn't even add the bar-b- sauce, just pulled it apart and ate it as a very tasty pork roast. Both times I used a pork butt roast to make sure it wouldn't dry out with all that cooking. Good recipe. Love the novelty of the root beer!

Classic Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2010
Wonderful cookies, my grandaughter loves them. I added 3 tablespoons of honey to the recipe and took out 1/4 cup of the white sugar - Just an old baking habit - I think it helps the cookies stay moist. Thanks for a good basic, no fail cookie.

No Bake Cookies III

Soft - not runny, Chewey and delicious! I added the cocoa when I put in the oatmeal, used natural peanut butter and unsalted butter. My family recipe for no-bakes had 1 cup of coconut stirred in with the oatmeal and NO peanut butter. In the end - it's ALL GOOD

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2009
Very good recipe - the flavors of sweet and savory seem to marry beautifully in this dish. Peoples tastes are all different though and most of my family just couldn't adjust to sausaage and apples in their stuffing. I still use the basics of this recipe but to keep my parents happy I cut the apple, cranberries and sausage amounts in half, added one box of "savory herb" stove top to bring up the bread to meat ratio and double the liquid so I can make this outside the bird in my crockpot. I loved the recipe "as is" but it's still very tasty modified for family preferences.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
I can't imagine how this recipe didn't turn out well for some people. It was fast and easy and the cookies were chewy and delicious. I used one box of vanilla and one box of chocolate pudding because that's all I had in the house. I also used twice as much vanilla only because our family is big on the vanilla taste. I only had one cup of butter so I substituted Smart Balance for the other cup. The recipe made beautiful, soft chocolaty, chocolate chip cookies that the hubby loved. Thanks for the recipe.
