I'm an engineering management consultant married for over 30 years to an electronics technician. We moved to remote New Mexico after I retired from the Air Force. We currently have custody of two active grandsons (ages 9 and 11) which keeps us young. We like to raise and process our own food (fruit, vegetables, milk, meat, etc.). Making sausage and cheese is part of our life. Canning and freezing are essential.
My favorite things to cook
I like soups and stews because they are usually done in a crock pot (and my husband does the cooking). I enjoy cooking desserts and goodies. Canning is a favorite chore. It's great to walk into the pantry and choose dinner from ingredients that we raised ourselves.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother was a good cook but she preferred to let her daughters cook. I remember coming home from college and doing all the holiday cooking for the family.
My cooking triumphs
My fresh coconut pie recipe was chosen for a national pie and pastry book.
My cooking tragedies
Something greenish brown and rubbery that my sister and I cooked when I was eight years old.
