Fifty year old woman born in the wrong century. Should have been living 300 years ago. Love old fashioned recipes and bringing them back to life. Christian first, wife second, mother third, US citizen, fourth, employee fifth.
My favorite things to cook
soups, stews, casseroles, southern and midwestern cuisine, traditional family menus like Thanksgiving, Christmas. Celebrating simply, but well at the holidays and enjoying family year 'round.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Scalloped oysters, sweet potatoes from scratch with orange juice and maple syrup, turkey with dressing, gravy and scratch mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie, ham with orange sauce, holiday meals with just this menu, maybe adding venison in, roasted with bacon.
My cooking triumphs
Developing my venison recipe, getting a holiday meal (or any meal for that manner) to the table on time, making really yummy soup for very, very little (less than $2.50 per meal for the whole entree), feeding my family well without a lot of fancy ingredients
My cooking tragedies
Putting baking soda in the flour for fried chicken instead of baking powder. Awful!!!! Being sick one Thanksgiving and ruining the meal. It was lousy too. I don't have too many cooking tragedies!
