Herb Rubbed Sirloin Tip Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2010
FANTASTIC dry rub! I used fresh herbs and included rosemary and sage and it came out beautifully. I actually cooked my roast in a dutch oven so when I took it out of the oven to rest, I added onions, garlic, mushrooms, and flour, cooked that mixture for a bit then added chicken stock and let simmer on the stove top for 5-10 minutes. Finished the sauce off with some chives and let me tell you, a delicious accompaniment to the roast!

Naan

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2010
This was fairly easy and had a great flavor. I recommend adding a bit of sugar to the warm water when you are dissolving the yeast as it helps with rising the dough a bit quicker. I also added some baking soda to help make it a little more bubbly but not really sure if it helps too much as I didn't see a huge change as I normally do when adding baking soda to recipes. I baked half the recipe in a cast iron skillet and it turned out phenomenal: had that grill, charred flavor that is typical of naan. The other half I baked in the oven for 10 minutes at 375 and it resulted in a product EXACTLY like pita: pocket and all! The only thing I noticed is that it didn't have a big garlic flavor so I will definitely be making garlic butter to spread over during the cooking process. All in all, a keeper recipe!

Habanero Pepper Cream Pasta

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2009
Pretty darn good. I used half and half to save on calories and fat AND added another half of dried habanero pepper for more kick. Will definitely keep this one for future use.

Teriyaki Flank Steak

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2009
WOW~! This was amazing. We actually used chicken instead of flank steak, marinated it for a couple of hours, and the flavor was out of this world. Pair it will a bed of rice and some steamed bok choy, and you have yourself a healthy, tasteful dinner.

Taqueria Style Tacos - Carne Asada

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2009
This has good flavor, but definitely not an exact replica of the street tacos you get in Mexico- trust me, I am from San Diego! The salsa was super mild and I would recommend some major heat addition to kick it up. The meat was tasty but not like the charbroiled kind off the street (you need a grill to get the taste...period!). The relish was yummy and for additional tang add some lime zest. All in all a good recipe but there are better ones out there...try your own version!

Louisiana Shrimp and Eggs Gumbo

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2009
This was a pretty easy, basic gumbo recipe and was delicious. The addition of eggs is something new (and very french) and gave a new take on the traditional gumbo. My only advice is to make sure your cook the roux perfectly...it can ruin your recipe if not!

Lime Chicken Soft Tacos

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2009
Had good flavor but I opted for cilantro in place of oregano. Great marinade and goes great with a side of black beans, guacamole, and salsa!

Turkey with Orange Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2009
I used this sauce to go over chicken and it was delicious. I omitted the brown sugar (as it is plenty sweet without it) and added some rosemary for more depth of flavor. Definitely a keeper and super easy. Make sure to bring to a boil, though, so it thickens properly!

Slow Cooker Barbequed Pork for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2009
Was okay. I slow cook pork all the time and I thought this one lacked a little flavor. I liked the coffee addition, though, and will definitely try to incorporate it in other recipes.

Orange Rosemary Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2009
I used this recipe for a whole chicken and it turned out great. I stuffed the chicken with onions and carrots, marinated it in the o.j. mixture, and then made a seperate orange rosemary sauce to go over the finished product. Delicious!

Bolognese Stuffed Bell Peppers

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2009
Pretty good recipe: I added garlic and onion for more flavor and used red, yellow, and green bell peppers for more variety. The next time I make this, though, I will use more spices as it didn't have enough punch for me.

Gramma's Apple Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2009
Excellent bread pudding! The sauce was just a little too sweet, though, as we enjoyed it much more with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Chocolate Chip Peppermint Cookies

Yummy! The light batter really makes this a moist, dense cookie. I added peppermint chips instead of the peppermint extract and it was just as good.

Simple Sugar Cookies

FANTASTIC! By far the easiest sugar cookie recipe and comes out perfectly. I rolled mine in sugar and cinnamon to give it more of a "snickerdoocdle" flavor.

Butternut Squash Bisque

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2008
This was absolutely delicious! The only thing I did differently was add ground ginger, cinnamon, cayanne (just a pinch), and a bay leaf in addition to the nutmeg. For a finishing touch (and to add a savory flavor) I crumbled pancetta and drizzled a little of the oil over top. This is a keeper!

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

I made this with turkey to be a little bit more healthy. I added some worcestersire sauce as well as garlic and it came out perfectly cooked and yummy. Not the greatest recipe for meatloaf but simple and easy to do.

Apple Stuffed Chicken Breast

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2008
This was really good, especially the wine reduction sauce! I would recommend some type of "glue" for the stuffing, though, like a mustard of some sort: adds a bit of "tang" to the dish.
