Nonalco Punch

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2009
This is so easy and so good. I left out the sugar completely and it was perfect. The gingerale and pineapple juice are sweet enough. Served this at our Canada Day celebration today and there were lots of complements and everyone had seconds. I made an ice ring with straight cranberry juice to keep it cool. Be sure to add the almond extract. It melds the other flavours together. This is a keeper.

Best Ever Cinnamon Buns

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2011
Family told me this was a "grand slam". Can't do better than that. One adjustment. Don't know how these could be made with only 2 Tbsp. sugar in the filling. I used lots (about 1 cup) of brown sugar, mixed in the cinnamon and then followed the directions. Superb. The cake mix is the secret ingredient.

Banana Muffins I

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2010
When I followed the recipe properly these were great. The first time I made them I blew it on the sour cream and put in a cup instead of 1/4 cup. They were like banana Yorkshire puddings. A little humility doesn't hurt and reminds me to read recipes more carefully. Bottom line, the recipe as is, is a keeper.

Muriel's Turnip Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2012
This is the best turnip recipe that I've found. I had lots of compliments and there were only a few spoonfuls left. Will definitely make this again. Went really well with our Christmas turkey dinner.

Marinade for Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2011
Tried this first with chicken and thought that it needed a little something to give it more zing. The chicken was very tender and tasty but next time I will add something to make it a better than good meal. Tried it a second time with pork tenderloin but added one clove of minced garlic to a quarter recipe of the marinade. The result was over the top - beyond 5 stars. By the way, you get a lot of bang for little effort with this one.

Light Oat Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2011
Should be called vanishing oat bread. Can't imagine this bread having a chance to go stale. Substituted olive oil for the butter just for ease. Tasted great and easy to make. Will make this regularly.

Rhubarb Cheesecake Dream Bars

Reviewed: May 10, 2010
Took this to work for a shared lunch. Lots and lots of compliments and requests for the recipe. I doubled the shortbread base and made it in a 9x13 pan. Middle 2 layers were the same amount as in recipe. Had to double the sour cream layer. Bottom line is that this was a huge hit so I'll make it again. No doubt about it being 5 stars.

Roasted Vegetable Lasagna

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2010
When everyone goes back for seconds and compliments a dish, it definitely deserves 5 stars. I followed the recipe exactly and have to admit that it was time comsuming roasting the veggies and putting it together but definitely worth it. I made this dish a few days in advance so that I would have an easy dish for visitors who were coming for dinner at the end of a work day. Worked out really well. It was an investment in time but worth it.

Lemonade Chicken

Reviewed: May 30, 2010
I read the reviews before making this recipe. Since I made changes I'm rating it 4 stars. Sauteed chicken that was dredged in flour. Added 1 tsp. garlic powder to the liquid part. Added some big chunks of green pepper and onion to the mix. About an hour before it was done I added some fresh pineapple in chunks. End result was five starts but since I made the changes don't feel it's fair to give it a full five. Definitely going to make again. Very easy and end results tasty.

Hamburger Stew

This was easy to make and delicious. I took it to work and shared it with co-workers. All eight of us enjoyed it. Lots of raves. Unanimous applause so it deserves 5 stars. Didn't tinker with the recipe. Will definitely make this often.

Whole Wheat Refrigerator Rolls

These were beyond a five start rating. Easy to make, really light and tasty, will definitely make again. The combo of flour that I used was 3 whole wheat to 3.5 white. Just perfect.

Sweet-Sour Red Cabbage

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
Followed the exact recipe and took to a potluck. Not even a teaspoonful was left. Froze some and saved for later. Was just as good as fresh and got rave reviews. Can't ask for better than that.

Rhubarb Custard Pie II

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
This pie was a big hit but I gave it a 4 star rating because I reduced the sugar to 1.5 cups. Would have been much too sweet with more. Next time I will reduce the vanilla just a bit. I think it's needed to cut the bite of the rhubarb a bit, but was a bit too much. Definitely will use this recipe again. My husband says that his grandmother made the best rhubarb custard pie ever. Well, move over granny... I'm ready for the challenge and I think with this recipe and the two changes I mentioned I'll have the blue ribbon.

Cabbage Rolls II

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2011
Have finally mastered making cabbage rolls that are tender. I added about 1/4 tsp. garlic powder to the meat. Doubling the sauce is a good idea as suggested by others. Easy to make in a slow cooker. Won't bother looking further for a better recipe. This is it!

Potluck Chicken Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2009
This recipe gets 5 stars by me because I would make it again and would serve it to guests. Noted some of the suggestions by other reviewers. Added about 1/4 cup of chicken broth to the sauce. No problems with the casserole being too dry. Also, the crunch of the celergy really added something to this dish. Used a whole onion (a small one) as suggested by a reviewer. Next time will try adding a bit of paprika to step up the flavouring. But even without that, it was very good. The cornflake topping added something for eye appeal and a bit of crunch too. Nice change to not use canned soup for a casserole and avoid too much salt. This recipe goes in my "keepers" file. Thanks.

Mary's Meatloaf

Easy to make, delicious, was a big hit with my family. I used oats instead of bread as other reviewers suggested. This was one of the best, if not the best meatloaf I've ever made.

Easy Mushroom Rice

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2011
I really like reading the comments from other people. Took the suggestion of substituting mushoom soup for onion soup. Sauteed a few fresh mushrooms and some garlic. This recipe was incredibly easy and it turned out really well. When the comments are "make this again" I know I've found a winner. Thanks for submitting this recipe.
