I'm a young woman interested in travelling, cultures, history, music, books, art, philosophy, psychology, people, politics, learning new etc.etc. My hobbies are reading, writing, painting, drawing, sitting in cafeterias, going to cinema, partying, having so much fun, and baking! (cooking as well;P)
My favorite things to cook
I love baking. I've always loved. As a kid I was only allowed to be an assistant to my grandma and my mom as they were cooking and baking. But as I grew older I started baking on my own. Nowadays I usually bake bread, pizza or ham pies for my boyfriend and take care of catering in all sorts of occations and celebrations. I love to try different recipes and be innovative. I use the ingredients that happens to be available and try different techniques. I read a lot of cookbooks and put the recipes on my mind. Then when comes the time to bake or cook, I try to bring some recipes on my mind. At the moment I love to bake cakes, cupcakes, macaroons, brownies and that sort of sweet stuff. Chocolate brownies, Spicy Cakes and Cheese-, Berry- and ApplePies are my specialities. Never has anyone had to force me to cook!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
As far as I can remember my grandma has baked a BlueberryPie. We used to collect the berries from our summercottage and she baked the heavenly treat. Grandma told my mom the recipe and so I was allowed to help her make it at home. Some while ago I asked the recipe and it tastes marvellous even when I do it! Evenif I now know how to make it myself, I always remember grandma and those warm summerdays at our cottage. Sometimes the crust of her pie was stuck in the cake tin, sometimes she forgot to put sugar in the filling, and occationally the entire pie was burned. But still there could have been nothing that we'd loved more than grandma and her blueberrypie! ... Another one that I still makes me drool is my papa's Lasagna. He has made it long before I was even born, and it was one of the favourite dishes of my childhood. It was always a special occation. He used to make it for hours! I sat and waited in front of the oven for the luscious dish to be cooked. As a youngster I watched him
My cooking triumphs
When someone has given me a big smile and asked for more. That's what's something to me.
My cooking tragedies
Pretty basic.. Burned pies, pastries on fire, uneatable buns (so hard that they've been useful only for breaking windows and stuff..), discuisting flavours, too much salt, too much pepper etc. And the worst have probably been succesfully made, delicious sauces, dishes, cakes, muffins and pies which no one has still been willing to eat.

Speculaas Cookies or Spicy Sinterklass Cakes
Thank you for this recipe. I tried it when a Belgian friend of mine was coming to visit me. I have also been to Belgium and tasted the original Speculaas made by a famous cafeteria in Bryssels. So, I baked the dough in two parts. In the first part I liked the texture of the cookies baked according to this recipe. But I thought there was way too much lemon peel. One tablespoon is more than enough! In my opinion there was also too less spices! So I added 1 tsp more of each. Finally I decided to add some white sugar in addition to the brown sugar to make it more tastefull. So I liked better the second, adapted part of the cookie dough.
